Let’s take a political compass test!!!
Above: my results from Sept 2020.
I know you didn't come to my page for politics, and you shouldn't expect a post like this from me on the regular because this ISN’T a political blog (it’s basically just another variety page). However, I’ve noticed people are getting more and more split along partisan lines on Tumblr, and I find this troubling. I’ve even had a few people drop my page recently for no other reason than I refused to slant as left or right as they do. I’ll post something on my blog that is ever so slightly out of someone’s worldview... they shortly thereafter unfollow me for purely political reasons. Which, by the way, I have no problem with. Every time I lose one irrationally butt hurt follower; I gain like 3-5 the very same week these days. Feel free to hit the bricks if I offend you. But some of these unfollowers were folks I shared a semi-regular friendly dialog with, so it was sad to see them go, especially for such petty reasons when we could have just talked about it. Today only, I wanted to establish a dialog about politics on my page in a fun way and I hope some people join along for shits and giggles.
The personal IS political. So, it’s time for me to re-validate my values, and take another political compass test over at https://www.politicalcompass.org/test. Two years ago, I was center-left. I’m betting over the years I’ve gone a bit to the right. Let’s see if I’m correct...
If you haven’t taken a political compass test yet, don't be nervous, I’d recommend doing it just for kicks especially if you’re bored. Even if you don't care about politics, it can be fun to know where you truly stand on modern issues. Here are some of my answers.
Some of the options may shed light on your morally gray areas. Although the test took me less than ten minutes, I was honestly stumped a few times because some of the queries don't contain a full context. Therefore, you must assume the meaning for yourself and just be pragmatic.
Some of the questions are kind of unconventionally entertaining! There were two about art, and I can't say I’m particularly passionate about TOO MANY political issues nowadays. So, when I felt a strong emotional reaction, I’d go with a strong agreement/disagreement.
I don't know about you but I’m really sick of making enemies on the internet for no other reason than I am myself. I personally don’t care if you’re left of left, or right of right, or smack dab in the center, I just want people with different views to start talking in this country again.
SO, without further ado, here are my results...
I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Not only was I WRONG in my prediction that I was more right leaning these days (which would only be an indication of me moving closer to the center), I have demonstrably somehow gone even further to the left and become even less authoritarian. I’m still a classical liberal, VERY close to the center and my internal ethics/values can be summed up like this; don’t fuck with me and I won’t fuck with you. I’m probably the most milk-toast, fence-sitting and non-threatening person you’ll ever meet on Tumblr, folks! So, remember, when I post something that offends your political values, and you run away without having a conversation with me, you are demonstrating that you possess a worldview that is not fundamentally strong and probably folds like an accordion on further inspection. Talk to me instead; establish a meaningful dialog. Remember that thing called communication? Let’s try to bring that back to Tumblr in 2022!!! Take the test! Show off the results and let’s use it as a conversation piece. No fighting allowed! Let’s talk! If you fight or run away, you lose!
