' i love this life, despite the fate that hangs above my head. i know that this world is far from perfect, but we all have our reasons for cherishing it. ' ( gently waves and runs away... but not before holding you and fuuka in my arms and having admired from afar. 🥺 )
"Ryoji-kun..." In a few weeks he could be dead or they all could be. This could be their last conversation. Either way she was about to lose a dear friend. How was she meant to cope? She'd just started to enjoy this life. She'd just started to move forward proud of who she felt she was becoming. She was just starting to get to know herself. Now... It was all going away. Slipping out from her grasp like trying to catch the sea in her hands. But like the sea bits of this life still lingered in her hands, didn't it? Beautiful bits of shells that brought joyous memories of time with friends back, remnants of salt left behind from tragedies she had survived through life and specks of water still lingering to remind her that while the water was gone it still existed and it had still changed her... Did it truly matter how much time they had left? She could still hold her head high at the end of the day and say 'I was brave'. She could still step forward without regretting who she was. Because she'd become strong enough to face the waves of life as the person she wanted to become not the person others wanted her to be. Because she had true friends at her side now, even the friends who weren't there were still connected to her. Even if life ended today or tomorrow or in a few weeks, she could be happy because she had lived so deeply connected with those she loved.
And that included Ryoji. She still remembers how he pleaded with them to kill him. To think about ending his life sooner so that all of them could live just a little bit longer. It was her leaders decision, they would have to make that call. She trusted them to do the right thing, make the right call as they always had. She hoped they'd let Ryoji live. She didn't want to live longer if it meant losing more of her dear friends. She smiles at him, sadness still lingering in her hazel eyes but the smile itself holds a kind of resilience that goes beyond her years.
"I love it too. You're right it's far from perfect but I think that just means we should cherish it more. Those imperfections are often what help us to form the most solid connections in ourselves and with others. They're devastating and it's unfair the hardships many of us have to go through. But when we survive we can come out the other side knowing we're stronger through our own power and the power lent to us by friends. Ryoji-kun... I'm glad we got to meet."
