Have you watched Earthspark? What's your opinion on it? (On the first season at least, we don't talk about the rest...)
Hello there! So yes I actually watched Earthspark until I think half S3 (I know we don't talk about but... XD). Surely was confusing at the beginning since I watched it after barely rewatched Prime and I was entering the fandom so I didn't catch some things at the beginning (and some episodes link wasn't working so I also lost some piece initially). Then I did a rewatch with GF, but mostly only S1 (bc there was the dubbed Ita version but still we haven't found the other seasons- that we don't talk about- dubbed in our language, so no rewatch as for now). Said the long premises, I am quite sad of the result of the show, because got clearly a "Stars Wars sequel trilogy*" problem, with producers pulling here and there show directors. (*Which is that the production tried to go after the impossible task to follow the mood of the fandom, getting worse and worse with every movie) I think that the show have interesting ideas, and I was pretty much fascinated by the mood "There was a war, Decepticons were 'the bad guys'? Maybe, but as for today, the war is over and here we are: all tired." I also like the family dynamic for the Terrans and even that Mo & Robby are not my fave humans, are among the ones I don't hate XD I can clearly see that there were ideas to give characters some thickness, some redemption arc, helped with the arrival of new robots types that had nothing to do with the past war. They tried to talk about war, about racism, different bodytype, redemption, and so on... but most of the messages were quite erratic and confused and then mostly thrown away in the next seasons (byeee Tarantulaaaas).
Not that Transformers is new to this kind of problems (just look how many problems got Prime or Armada...) but I think that Earthspark suffered the entertainment crisis that many new tv aired nowadays. Creators have very little voice and could loose the direction of their work in a nanoclik because got bad reviews, not enough audit and so on. The very difficult balance between producers (which usually only invest and see a chance of profit) and artists (which usually have a vision and knows about the fandom or at least know their market field) has never been perfect (and sometimes already very bad) and in our days is a complete disaster (is not only for Kids show ofc). Dunno. I think that if Earthspark aired before 2016\2017, maybe could have been treated differently, but as for today, I don't expect nothing from big productions, which usually want cheap work and gain a lot (and AI introduction is not helping, even that ppl is clearly rejecting IA products and the financial blow talks clearly). They think that since they are BIG, they will work anyway, that there always would be somebody that want to give they money for sh*t or poorely done works (just think of decay of Pokèmon games) or they just simply interrupt things and byez. I know animations for toys has always been this way with some rare cases of peak (I think to BikerMice, Digimon, etc) and the entire point was "let's build a story so kids will buy the toy", but many new shows today are some kind... off? (And when there's a gem or peak then is marketing failing... poor TFONE). Maybe I am too old and too outside this kind of market, but simply I can't understand how producers hope that they could keep this alive in the future if they are destroying quality... they think we will simply get used to eat sh*t? Poo will always taste of poo, even that you put sprinkles on it. (pretty much like the problem of not preserve the planet from destruction for having more money and luxury now that in a decade will become dust.) ... Sorry for the long venting\chaotic very badly english written post. ALSO: If you're interested in a nice Earthspark Fic that took place after S1, I suggest @2due fic "Sparks of a new kind of life" which I think Is very nice to read and fix\ease some of our concern with the other seasons XD
