@entitied : ❛ the girl at the register winked and said she’s also a big fan of ‘ fifty shades ’ and this is what has become of our society . fucking and killing are the same damn thing . ❜
WHEN EVERYONE AROUND YOU prescribes to the same cookie cutter lifestyle that the city of dreams feeds down their throats -- says it’s the key to success -- it’s easy to pick out the ones lost in a crowd. But he doesn’t look lost, looks like he knows exactly what he’s doing. Sticks out like a sore thumb, but maneuvers through aisles and bodies until he finds his mark. For a second I pretend like I don’t realize he’s talking to me. Too eager, and he’ll see through the act, realize I’ve watched his head bob up and down through the shelves. Too slow, and he’ll lose interest. So when I look over my shoulder, I lean in closer to him as if we’re sharing an intimate secret. Men like to feel like they own coveted parts of women, so I offer him a piece of me and my knowledge.
❝ I’ll give you a heads up, she works on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and uses that line on every other customer. Can’t tell you the success rate, but in case you want to do your grocery shopping in peace next time. ❞ I tap the side of my nose and sum him up in the same second. New Yorker, accent clear as day, and outfit to match. Deep, or pseudo-deep, but nonetheless more substance than anyone on the West Coast. Troubled. And that’s just a gut instinct, call it a sixth sense. My knuckle brushes past his hand to pluck a pear off the top of a poorly assembled pyramid, slowly rotating it in my palm as I let him hear how his words sound coming from me. Slow, clear and drawn out. ❝ Fucking and killing are the same damn thing. ❞ Consider it for a second, let it sit and simmer in the air between us. ❝ Adrenaline, animalistic, a way to survive. ❞
I let our eyes meet, and maybe he’ll see whatever he wants to see. With a shrug and a crooked grin, I sink my teeth into the pear. ❝ Guess so, but I don’t think fifty shades is the catalyst of the ruin of our society. I’d argue that started with Jersey Shore. ❞ Wiping pear juice off the corner of my lips, I offer the mysterious stranger an observation and a cheeky remark. ❝ No one from here would ever make that connection, so answer this very important question, does L.A have you hashtag starstruck yet ? ❞
