How Businesses Can Show Their Commitment to the Environment
Green. Earth-friendly. Environmentally-conscious. Sustainable. Recyclable. Organic. These are all terms we've come to understand and listen to over and over again in the last few years. The eco trend has moved beyond people and into businesses throughout the country. Being aware of the environment and taking steps to make organizations more eco-friendly isn't a trend, it's a lifestyle shift and is here to stay. If your organization hasn't yet adopted the green movement or whether you're in the middle of your eco attempts, keep reading for some ideas on the best way best to market your earth-friendly efforts.
Why is it important for organizations to become green? Apart from helping to protect our world, there are numerous other reasons for organizations to go green. First, it is going to allow you to save money. Using energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs, switching to post-consumer newspaper, and encouraging workers to publish less are some of the numerous things which you could do to help the environment and save money for your business. Becoming green also helps to attract new clients. Consumers are likely to obtain their goods from companies who share the exact values, such as their commitment to the environment. Growing your eco efforts may also increase worker well-being. It creates a favorable environment and shows employees that you care. If your company cares about the environment, you're more likely to care about your employees also.
Suggestions to kick start and promote your own Eco efforts.
Make an inner green team. To make sure workers at all levels of the company are engaged and excited about your eco attempts, create a group of people from various regions of the company to direct your internal campaign. They could help implement, monitor and report on your progress and encourage others throughout the organization to share in the mission. Give them an organic t-shirt with'Green Team' imprinted on it, and outfit every team member with a source of recycled pens to hand out to people as they catch them in the act of helping the environment.
Celebrate milestones. Be certain you celebrate all accomplishments so the whole organization is aware and motivated by your efforts. Earth Day is a wonderful day to celebrate, but enlarge the events to other days during the year also. Hand out recycled or reusable water bottles for your employees with information inserted by how much energy or money you've saved through your efforts. Also, encourage them to utilize the water bottles in place of bottled water to help the environment.
Participate in community programs. Organize or take part in a volunteer cleanup effort at a nearby park. Bring a team of workers and give them each a seed packet at the conclusion of the event to plant in their area. Sponsor the event by providing all in attendance a recycled shopping handbag with your logo on it.
Incorporate your eco message in your marketing programs. Promote your eco-friendly efforts in all your marketing efforts. Send out press releases on your organization's efforts, make an eco narrative and include it on your organization website or in your catalogue, and be sure any promotional item you're using is eco-friendly. Overwhelmed? What If You Designed a Productive Work Environment?
An integral way to reduce your overwhelm is to design a productive work environment. This is actually easier than you may think. The truth is, most professionals
Get employment
Receive an office or other designated workspace
leave the workspace because it had been for the previous person or as the folks from buildings & grounds put it up
begin working
Few professionals believe intentionally and mindfully about what a successful work environment would look (and feel) like for them. Hence, they undergo their work lives tolerating small and massive annoyances, set-ups, and problems that detract from their overall productivity.
Though it seems kind of crazy (and I imagine your experience is not much different from mine), nobody ever spoke to me about designing a productive work environment when I was a classroom teacher, college professor, or administrator. It was never said because nobody I worked with had ever considered the idea ! It was just when I started taking courses to become a mentor and in my practice for a professional organizer that I began to learn about this idea.
"Your workspace is a tool"
Look around your workspace. . .is it a tool or a toolbox? If it's the former, congratulate yourself and see whether it might be improved. If it's the latter, then make sure you read the remaining suggestions in this report.
Design? I Get to Pick!?
First, decide which one of those words captures exactly what it is that you would like to do up to reconceptualizing your work environment:
Design
make
create
strategy
define
invent
sketch
conceptualize
cerebrate
Suggestions to Consider in Your Design (or Your Cerebrating)
As You're determining your design, consider these categories:
Seems
smells
places
positioning
clutter
tools
These are not the only categories that you might need to consider during your re-design. It depends on YOU and your job. The idea is that you will need to get a workspace that the supports your work as opposed to detracting from it.
