Hey guys! So this is a one shot story requested by an anon. This is my first time ever writing an EOA Fic, also it’s been quiet awhile since I last wrote any story so I’m sorry if it’s not the best. This Story is about Isabel and Esteban having some bonding time together since we did not get much of it in the series. This takes place after Estebans redemption and the family is still trying to get passed what happened with his betrayal towards them. I hope you like it and enjoy reading it, Feedback and constrictive criticism is welcome.
It had been a few weeks since they Esteban redeemed himself by helping Elena defeat The Four Shades. Esteban still felt bad for his past mistakes of helping Shuriki take over Avalor and betraying his family, he wanted to try and make it up to them. Esteban made his way to the throne room to see if Elena needed help with anything. Once he arrived he opened the doors of the throne room and saw Queen Elena and Naomi scratching off things from the list of duties she had needed to complete.
“Hello Queen Elena, I came to help and offer my services. Did you need help with anything?” Esteban asked.
Elena smiled softly at Estebans offer. “Thank you cousin Esteban that’s a nice offer, but Naomi and I have almost everything covered. Thank you for asking, if I need anything I will be sure to call you.” Elena said putting her hand on his shoulder with a soft smile.
Esteban smiled back and nodded. He saw Elena and Naomi leave the throne room to finish the rest of the Royal Duties. Esteban sighed deeply, ever since Naomi became Chancellor he didn’t have much to do around the castle anymore. “Ever since Elena made Naomi Chancellor I haven’t had anything to do in the castle. They don’t come to me for advice anymore, and they haven’t given me a job to do.” Esteban said to himself with a sigh.
Esteban was walking down the halls lost in his thoughts, cranking noises echoed through the hall snapping him out of his thoughts. “What’s that noise?” Esteban said confusedly. He kept walking following the sound, after a few moments the noise was getting louder. He got closer and saw the door to Isabel lab open. Esteban knocks on the door, “Isabel are you okay?” He asked.
Isabel lifted up her goggles and looked to Esteban, “ Hi cousin Esteban, I’m fine. I’m working on a special project but i just can’t get it to work.” Isabel sighs frustratedly.
Esteban walks in and looks at the weird looking invention laying on the ground. “Isabel did you want some help? I’m no inventor but if you tell me what to do I’m sure we can work together and get this invention going.” Esteban said with assurance.
Isabel pondered on her cousins offer, ever since Elena became Queen it was hard for them to spend time together and work on any of her inventions together. Isabel looked at her cousin, “I’d like that cousin Esteban thank you.” Isa said with a smile.
Esteban smiled back, finally something he could do, this could be his chance at proving himself that he can do more then be in the castle not doing anything very important.
“Okay where so we start?” Esteban asked rolling up his sleeves.
“Okay see that piece of metal over there can you hand it to me?” Isa asked pointing at the piece she wanted.
Esteban looked at the piece she wanted and handed it to her. “Thank you.” Isa said putting on her googles and putting the piece of metal in the right place.
“Isabel may I ask, what this machine your inventing does?.” Esteban asked with curiosity.”
This baby will give us hot running water not just to us but to everyone in Avalor. You know how people have to grab water and heat it up on the stove to get it warm? Well with this little contraption.” Isa said showing it off.
“You can get hot water in less than a few minutes. This will save everyone the trouble of having to go out and get the water they need to heat up. When they can just come to this machine and the water will already be hot, then maybe one day we can actually have it to where it runs through all of Avalor and all we have to do is turn on our sink and hot water will come out. No more having to heat it up on the stove.” Isa said with enthusiasm.
Esteban smiled, he missed seeing Isa get exited when she would be inventing. “That sounds like a really great invention Isabel, plus it would help the whole kingdom.”Esteban said with a soft smile. “Maybe we could even find a way for them to have hot water in the showers too, so we can take hot showers instead of cold ones.” Esteban said ponding on the idea.
Isa looks up at her cousin and a smile forms on her face, “Esteban that’s a great idea! I’ll make another invention that will help us run the hot water through the pipes and into the showers.” Isa said with excitement.
Esteban couldn’t help but smile, he felt like he finally was doing something right after the events that had happened. “What would you like me to do next?” Esteban asked.
“Can you hand me my twist hook right over there” Isa asked pointing to the gadget she wanted.
Esteban grabbed the gadget and handed it to her. Isa paused for a moment when he handed her the twist hook maybe she would let Esteban do this part. “Hey Esteban would you like to put this part on?” Isa asked.
“I don’t know where it goes.” Esteban answered.
“It’s okay, I’ll show you where it goes, It goes right here.” She stated pointing to a certain area on the invention.
“Okay.” Esteban answered with a nod.
Isa handed him the tool and the part he needed to attach. Esteban took the two things from Isa and began to attach the part and tighten the bolt. After a few minutes and he felt the piece was secured he stopped, “How’s this Isa?” Esteban asked.
Isa analyzed the part, “Looks great Esteban!” Isa answered giving him a thumbs up. “Now all that’s left is to put this last part and the Omni Water Heater Mechanism will be ready.” Isa said with a smile.
“A Omni-water... what?” Esteban asked raising his brow.
“A Omni Water Heater Mechanism, that’s what going to call it.” Isa answered.
Esteban just let out a small chuckle, “Okay once we put this last piece we’ll be done?.” Esteban asked with a hint of disappointment in his tone.
Isa could hear the different tone in Esteban voice, “Yes if my calculations are correct it should be able to turn on and heat up the water once we put it inside. Is something wrong Cousin Esteban?” Isa asked.
“N-no nothing’s wrong, I just thought it would have taken longer to build.” Esteban said with a nervous chuckle. “Let’s just add the last piece and see if your Omni-water... your invention works” Esteban stated.
Isa raised a brow and shrugged, she gave him the last piece. “Oh wait before you do that I forgot to give you something.” Isa said as she ran to her dest. She opened a drawer and grabbed a pair of goggles, she hands them to Esteban.
“Here your gonna need these because when the fire hits the metal it will send some sparks flying and you don’t want to get those in your eyes.” She stated giving him the goggles.
Esteban took the goggles and put them on, Isa couldn’t help herself and let out a small laugh when she saw Esteban put on the goggles. “What’s so funny?” Esteban asked confused.
“Nothing it’s just.. I never seen you with work goggles before. Makes you look different, in a good funny way.” Isa answered with small laugh.
Esteban smiled and let out a small chuckle, “okay let’s finish this.” Esteban said. He put the last piece in the place it was supposed to go, he looked at Isa for a moment who already had her goggles on and gave him a thumbs up with approval. Esteban turned on the welding tool and began to attach the piece, small sparks began to fly as the fire touched the metal and attached the last piece to the invention. after a few minutes Isa put her hand on his shoulder signaling him to turn it off, Esteban turned off the welding tool and put it back in its place. “I think that’s it right Isa?” Esteban asked putting his goggles on top of his head.
“Yep now we test it and if it works I can make that other gadget you were talking about and we’ll have hot running water and hot showers for everyone.” Isa said with an exited tone.
Esteban was happy to see Isa so exited, he just hoped he did it right. Maybe this could be his new job, helping Isa invent things. Isa took a look at the invention one more time making sure everything was in place.
“Okay cousin Esteban let’s see if this works.” Isa said pushing the button.
A wiring noise began to come out of the machine, she grabbed a small bucket of water and poured some of it into the machine seeing if it would heat up the water. A few seconds later she saw the water beginning to bubble, “Esteban I think it’s working!” She said with excitement.
Esteban slightly smiled as he saw the machine boiling the water, he couldn’t believe it something he did or helped with actually worked. Once Isa saw the water and steam coming out she turns off the machine. she puts a finger in the water to touch it
“ouch! that’s hot” Isa said pulling her finger out. “We did it Esteban, we have hot water!.” Isa said with excitement punching her fist up in the air.
Esteban was happy that Isa got her machine to work, but now that it’s over what would he do next?. “That’s great Isabel, you really are a talented girl.” Esteban said with a small smile.
“Thank you for your help cousin Esteban.” Isa said with a grateful tone.
“I’m glad I could assist you Isabel. I guess you don’t need my help anymore...” Esteban sighed sadly without knowing.
Isa caught onto Esteban tone, she knew something was bothering him especially the way he answered when she said the invention would be done. “Esteban is something wrong? You seem sad ever since I said the Omni Water Heater Mechanism was done.” Isa asked with concern.
Esteban gazed down to the floor, he wasn’t really good at talking about his feelings. Isabel comes closer to Esteban and puts her hand on his arm, “you can tell me cousin Esteban I won’t say a thing to anyone if you don’t want me to. Plus I think if you talk about what’s bothering you it might help you feel better. That’s what Elena taught me.” Isa said with a soft smile.
Esteban looked up at Isa with a all smile on his face. “Thank you Isa, it’s nothing you or anyone have done. It’s what I did to you and the family.” Esteban said with a sad tone.
Isa ponders on Esteban words, she probably knew he was talking about when he betrayed them and letting shuriki take over Avalor. She wanted to be sure, “What do you mean Esteban? Are you talking about what happened with Shuriki and Ash?.” Isa asked.
Esteban sighed with regret “Yes, ever since I helped Shuriki take over Avalor and you guys found out about my betrayal it’s been different between us...” Esteban said taking a seat.
Isa sits next to Esteban, “Esteban we forgave you for that already.” Isa said softly.
“Yes you say that but it doesn’t help that I tried gaining your trust again after Shuriki and then I betrayed you again when you found out the truth. Then joining Ash to take over Avalor didn’t help me either.” Esteban sighed disappointed.
Isabel gazed down for a moment Remembering the day they found out Esteban was responsible for killing their Mama and Papa, not to mention being stuck in a painting for 41 years. Isa looked back up to her cousin, she saw how sorry he really was for what happened in the past.
“Esteban I know you regret what you did in the past, to tell you the truth I was like Elena when I found out you helped Shuriki take over Avalor and killing Mama and Papa. Not to mention being stuck in a painting for 41 years I was angry at first because we treated and loved you like family. You were my favorite cousin to play with when we were kids, I’ll never really understand why you wanted to betray us.” Isa said with a heavy sigh.
Esteban felt his heart sink when he heard Isa talk about how she felt. “Isabel I-I’m so sorry... I guess I thought that I could be more than just a chancellor. That I would make a good king and Shuriki and Ash promised me that but... I didn’t know Shuriki was going to kill your parents.” Esteban said look down to the floor.
“I-I guess I wanted to be more than just a chancellor.. to be someone special but it turns out I was just the bad guy..” Esteban said shutting his eyes with regret.
“Ever since I redeemed myself and you and the family invited me to come back, it’s been different. I feel like there is no place for me anymore, Elena is Queen, Naomi is chancellor, Gabe is captain of the guards, Mateo is the royal wizard, and your the royal inventor. Everyone has a place and a job to do except me... I guess I thought that I would be able to make up for what I did to you and the family but every time I offer to help, it’s either someone else has it covered or they don’t need any help.” Esteban said refusing to look at Isabel.
Isabel remained quiet, she knew it was different having Esteban back with the family. It’s only been a few weeks since they stopped Ash and The 4 shades, and Esteban redeeming himself by helping save Avalor. She knew it must have been hard for him coming back and everything being different, she knew he was sorry and she had already forgave him they all did.
Isa looks at her cousin, “Esteban, I know you feel guilty about what happened in the past and I can’t blame you. I would feel guilty too If I did that but we already forgave you, I forgive you Esteban. You shouldn’t feel the need to prove yourself, you already did that by sacrificing yourself to save Elena and our kingdom. You stopped helped stop Ash and The 4 shades.” Isa said putting her hand on his shoulder.
“I understand why you joined Ash you were sacred that Elena was going to ban you to a deserted island and you only did what you thought was right to save yourself. It still wasn’t right what you did, but I could see that you didn’t really want to join Ash and she was the one that was mostly using you to take over Avalor.” Isa said looking at her cousin. “Esteban can you look at me for a minute?” Isa asked him.
Esteban hesitantly looked up at Isa.
“I understand why you feel like you don’t have a place here anymore, that you don’t have a job or purpose anymore. I would feel the same way too, but Esteban you do have a purpose. Maybe you don’t have a office job title yet but you do have a purpose, you make me laugh, you always try your best to help us when we need it, your there for us. That may not seem a lot to you but it is to us to me... I forgive you Esteban for everything, I still wish Mama and Papa were here with us. I miss them... but I know they would have forgiven you too and would be proud of you.” Isa said smiling softly.
“You made a mistake it happens, we all make mistakes what matters in the end is if you learned from them and you have. Your doing your best to make up for your past mistakes, that’s what counts and matters.” Isa said with a comforting smile.
Esteban felt tears threatening to fall from his eyes, he did feel guilty for what he did to his family. He knew what he did was wrong and he acknowledged that, to hear Isabel say that she forgave him and held nothing against him after everything he did and put her through. All Esteban could think was how much Isa had grown and matured, she sounded more like her sister everyday.
“Thank you Isabel, I-it means a lot to me to hear you say that. I really am sorry for all the hurt and trouble I caused you and the family. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me a third chance, I promise to do my best to make it up to you and the family.” Esteban said with a small smile.
“I know you will cousin Esteban, I forgive you for everything.” Isa said with a smile. “I love you cousin Esteban, I’m glad your back with us.” Isa said hugging him.
Esteban was stunned at the surprise hug, after a few seconds he responded. “I love you too Isabel.” Esteban said returning the hug.
They both stayed in the hug for a few more moments, Isa was the first one to pull away. “You know I just thought of the perfect job for you cousin Esteban.” Isa said with a small smirk on her face.
“Really what is it?.” Esteban asked curiously.
“How about you become my royal assistant? I have a lot of invention ideas and I could use the help. What do you think, will you accept the position of being my Royal assistant?” Isa asked with a smile.
Esteban ponderd for a moment, this could be his chance at a fresh new start. Maybe he didn’t know kick about inventing, but he knew he could learn with Isabel by his side. “I would gladly accept the position Isa, thank you.” Esteban answered with a soft smile on his face.
“Great! Happy you have you Cousin Esteban, besides I think you could be a great inventor one day. I mean you made the Omni Water Heater Mechanism now everyone can have hot running water.” Isa said with a smile.
“Ooh and after that we can start build that gadget you were talking about so that everyone in Avalor can take hot showers too!” Isa said enthusiastically.
Esteban smiled, he was thankful to have a Isabel and his family back. Isabel looked back at her cousin,
“what do you say Esteban, you ready to make the gadget that will bring everyone hot running water to everyone in Avalor?.” Isa asked with smile.
Esteban stood up and put his goggles on and gave a thumbs up. Isa laughed softly as she saw her cousin put the goggles on, Esteban smiled and laughed along with her. They began to work on the next gadget they needed to make the hot water run through all of Avalor. They had a few little mishaps and some explosions, when something went wrong they both would just laugh. They spent all day together creating a variety of gadgets, Esteban found his fresh new start. He even found a job he enjoyed doing, He was thankful to have his family back, and he would treasure every moment with them.
That completes my first EOA Fic🙂 I don’t expect that I’ll get very many likes or hits on this one because there are not a lot of EOA fans out there but I had fun writing this. I’m sorry anon if you wanted this whole fic to be fluffy but when I write stories I have to add a bit of angst lol.😅 sorry if there are a few spelling errors I wrote all this on my phone heh.
