They’re mixing up the timeline a bit. A good thing to remember is Bryan Fuller’s approach to the Thomas Harris Hannibal canon. He started referring to himself a mashup DJ - the order of things got changed up quite a bit. And still the Red Dragon arc was pretty close to the book.
A large portion of that is because they’re not only telling Shadow’s story, so for example we’ll get to meet gods before Shadow does, or learn more about gods we only see in one coming to america intro. And see Laura’s story as well.
And in other cases, they just decided to move things forward, obviously with Easter being a clear example. Salim and the Djinn are also introduced this season.
In part, to keep those of us who have read the book (mumblety) times on our toes, and because they felt it would work better in this larger version of the world. But Neil Gaiman’s an executive producer and has blessed it all (and apparently at least once told them no don’t do that thing so they didn’t do it).
We don’t even get to the House on the Rock in the first season, apparently. I’m also hoping we get to Lakeside in S2 because I do love me some Hinzelmann and pasties.
