A powerful predator of not only fish, frogs, and invertebrates but other waterbirds as well
One of the few species of bird to have killed a human being: The Mir Shikar ethnic group of northern India has a custom where a man must fight a black necked stork, armed only with a limed rod, before he is allowed to marry. This practice was supposedly stopped after one man died in the process. “The bird gored his side fatally, and he died on the spot”
