Damn, I remember this like it was just yesterday. It was 4 years ago, I was in grade six and it was like the beginning of kindergarten all over again. Everyone was willing to make friends with one another. I came across one guy that I enjoyed meeting, his name was Ephraim Brown. Although I wasn't close to him, I considered him as a good friend. I looked up to him when it came to sports because I loved sports! He loved sports too and his enthusiasm for sports was incredible. He never gave up. Ephraim loved to cause trouble in class but that's how he has. He's funny in a trouble-making way. He would always force me to date guys and I would always get mad and yell at him because I refuse to obey his orders. I know that just by looking at him, he had the potential to do great in the future and inspire many people to follow his footsteps. He could've and would've been one of today's leaders.
Unfortunately, it was summer time and Ephraim was at his cousin's birthday party. I'm pretty sure he wasn't aware that there was a gang crossfire going on around him. Ephraim tried to hide from it and was probably terrified. During the crossfire, he got shot in the neck by a stray bullet and died at the scene shortly after the police arrived. Can you imagine that? Having an innocent boy's life being taken away at the age of 11. What hurts the most is that he was a friend of mine, someone I haven't even known for less than a year and I lost him JUST LIKE THAT. However, all of this taught me an important life lesson. To never take people for granted and think that they'll always be around because before you know it, they'll be gone in a blink of an eye.
I guess it goes to show that whoever you are, wherever you are, tell your family, your friends, your boyfriends/girlfriends and anyone that you're close to, that you love them right now. Take every chance to let them know that before it's too late. Stop the fighting, unnecessary arguments and waiting for the right time and tell them those simply three words and mean it with all of your heart. Live your life to your fullest potential and take risks you never thought you would risk!
