Russia and Japan are a combination that demands telling in the context of a mafia au. This was one of the first I read in this fandom, and it still remains a favorite.

Know this: this fic is dark. It is bloody, it is violent…and it is glorious! I loved the hard-edged Katsuki Yuuri, head of the Katsuki clan. No one truly knows him. Those who come close rightly fear him. Enter Silver, assassin and former hired gun for Yakov, leader in the Russian mob. Revered for his skills, but ultimately reviled for his proclivities. Together, they rule the dark places. God I loved watching Viktor slowly find his way inside the mind and ultimately heart of this really badass Yuuri. With any mafia au, you need to be prepared for things to be different from from canon, and that is particularly true with YOI, where fluff abounds. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying this fic.
