I was in Hannover last week, where we recorded an album for Moscow-based group Namgar at Horus Studios. Markus Reuter's production merges the group's traditional singing and instruments from Buryatia with electronics and guitar playing of all kinds. The song and dance structures themselves were subjected to a radical transformational process, deconstructed and rebuilt through improv, collage and a host of other studio processes. I'm very excited and grateful for having been invited to be a part of this album and the opportunity to meet and work with such a wonderful group of people. I'll make sure to mention it here as soon as the music is made available.
The team (left to right): Vlad Oboronko (manager/facilitator), Namgar Lkhasaranova (voice, yataga), Tobias Reber (electronics, synths, programming), Christian de Santis (guitars), Benni Schäfer (engineer, mixer), Markus Reuter (producer, arranger), Evgeny Zolotarev (chanza, voice). Guest musician Enkhjargal "Epi" Dandarvaanchig (morin khuur, throat singing) had already left when we took this group shot.
