From the moment he entered their lives, Lilly and David Jang spent every waking moment catering to their new son's every happiness, whether bringing that gummy, toothless grin to his tiny round face meant buying legos or flying across the Pacific to meet his birth parents. They'd watch as their tiny, toddling boy stumbled over into a different pair of arms, knowing that just as the mothers' two parallel sets of tears mirrored each other as they rolled down their respective cheeks, two parallel sets of hearts broke simultaneously over this tiny, precious, oblivious child. Such is parental love, and so strong was the Jang's love for Lukas. Through countless visits, countless flights, they stood back and allowed him to nurture his relationships with the only other people who loved him as they did, not once complaining.
Growing up, the Jang's sacrifices became increasingly apparent to Lukas, their once masterfully hidden sadness now simple to decipher. His growing awareness of the situation and new perception of himself as a burden to his parents seeded his guilt, which had grown as he had. Still, he wishes desperately to express his gratitude, a feeling not extigguishable with a simple "thank you". To even introduce the subject, however would only prove more disrespectful, as it would discredit the Jang's efforts to conceal their struggle from him.
