Pupa / ピューパ - this anime is based on a manga that seems to not have been finished at the time of creation and it shows heavily. I dont know the fandom, or ANY content from the manga, so please be aware that this reveiw is anime only.

I enjoyed watching this, for the most part, but it went off the rails extremely quickly. The site I used to watch it had all of the episodes in one compilation and I wasn't aware of this until AFTER, so there won't be episode specific triggers this time. Know that the majority of the triggers go for the entire show anyways. Dont watch this unless youre prepared to be REALLY disappointed.

My cursory research showed that this anime, while beautifully animated, is widely regarded as one of the worst Anime of all time and it SHOWS. Its apparently one of the worst adaptations of a manga ever made as well. The soundtrack is incredible, though!

Intro/Outro: Heavy themes of body horror, fast moving imagery, focus on bugs and eyes, artistic nudity, minor red white flash at the very end, outro contains artistic nudity of a child and blood, many blur effects.

Special notes: at one point there is a REAL LIFE VIDEO of a dead fish being gutted and the intestines splayed out on a billboard. It is EXTREMELY Graphic

Theres an entire plotline that is eventually dropped that implies the sexual assault of both siblings that involves a woman using her body as an incubator for a baby created from a sperm and an egg from underage and biological siblings. Her nude pregnant form is shown and its disgusting.

Trigger Catalog: Extreme Gore, Extreme Body Horror, death and dismemberment, segments that take place in a school, physical abuse scars including cigarette burns across a child's body, animal death and severe animal body horror, extreme physical and psychological abuse of children and women, focus on bugs, bug like sound effects, bug monsters, cannibalism, eating humans, erotic cannibalism between biological siblings, human experimentation, child experimentation, severe harm and distortion of stuffed animals (mainly teddybears), severe PTSD including but not limited to flashbacks, Smoking, extreme amounts of blood, heavy weaponry, a cat who is a camera, repeated killing and reviving of a teenager, loud and brutal screams of pain and fear from a child and several adults, manipulation, Kidnapping, calling a newborn/unborn baby a monster, graphic birth, favoritism between siblings, child murder and on screen corpse of an infant, Unreality, Dead Bird, Giant insects and the intentional killing of them, artistic nudity including that of children, pregnancy, pregnancy as horror, a person with no empathy posed as evil, knives very close to eyes, closeups on knives, stabbing children, murder, tazing especially to the neck, chaining and blindfolding a child, live autopsy of a child including amputation without any kind of anesthesia, creepy mascots, left on a very confusing cliffhanger.

Final notes: just dont watch this. Its not funny bad, its JUST uncomfortable incest eroguro of children, and the animation and music aren't enough to save it. If the idea of a giant monster bug eating people excites you, read the manga instead! I'm honestly disappointed. It started out pretty alright. As always, I go into these things almost entirely blind, and only watch sub. If there are other issues, let me know, and I will reblog or add them!

I don’t speak for every neurodivergent person obviously but for neurodivergent kids trick or treating- if anyone has an experience that has flashing lights or loud noises in like a haunted house- imagine if there was first of all- telling people that there will be loud noises or flashing lights- or anything else like that- and write that people who are neurotypical or are okay with those things knock- but people who aren’t ring a door bell and perhaps have a quick conversation on what they could do to make the experience accessible then DO IT. Like a kid with photosensitivity or epilepsy? Turn off the flashing lights. An autistic person with texture aversions? Maybe move the fake web to the side, so everyone can experience the almost same experience in a healthy way! Someone cannot use their legs? Bring the experience to them or find a way to make them feel involved!

Probably a perfect world situation but I find this idea to be so smart and an excellent way of including people with disabilities who sometimes can’t. I know from experience there have been so many events I couldn’t attend due to over stimulation and I just wanted to put this out here Incase people would use this

Welcome to the Anime Awareness Project!

My name is Lucian and I have started this project in order to give lists of trigger tags for the anime you love or wish to watch!

We are not saying the anime you love is bad, even if we don't enjoy it ourselves.

Its okay to like a dark red anime or hate a green one. No one is here to take what you love away, only to make it more accessible to others.

How does the AAP work?

I work on this project in my free time and I don't get payed to do this! I watch an anime, making notes every time a potential trigger comes up. This can be smoking, blood, breaking glass, high pitched noises, or anything you ask to be specifically triggered!

Please keep in mind that I only review sub, which means if there's anything heinous in the dub and its not easily found online, it WILL be missed!

We go on a colour system from Green to Dark Red, and from now on I will also be adding Flash Levels.

Green: Anime that have very few triggers in them, and the content of those potential triggers are very light.

Yellow Green: Anime that contain a little more than the above, but are still very safe overall.

Yellow: Anime that fall here usually have some larger triggers like a lot of loud noises, or guns present, things that wouldnt be awful, but can need a little prep to see for some.

Yellow Orange: As with above, but has more of those things or some slightly heavier things.

Orange: Anime that fall here can be quite emotional, or deal with some mildly heavy topics, like loss or grief. Many anime will end up here.

Red Orange: As with above, but likely heavier, or more intense.

Red: Red level anime are extremely common. They deal with very heavy topics, have many extreme emotions, and may contain large amounts of blood or violence. The majority of anime in this category may not be suitable for underage watchers, this is up to veiwer discretion entirely. You'll see anime like Death Parade, Full Metal Alchemist, and Lycoris Recoil here.

Anime here may also contain one or more moments in which Dark Red level triggers occur, but they don't happen enough to bump up the level.

Dark Red: This category is a recent edition to distinguish a standard red level anime from anime with illegal or immoral content within them. This includes extreme triggers like r@pe, SA, CSAM, 1ncest, z00philia, and things of that nature. L0licon and sh0tacon also go onto this category as they are considered CSAM by me. This category is the reason I started this project. Do not go into these anime lightly.

Light

Medium

High

Intense

Each review will have this label for convenience, but every situation is different. All anime moving forward will have a note containing the types and most common colours of flashes, and when possible, time stamps.

How we deal with adult entertainment oriented content:

We will not review hentai here. If its p0rn for p0rns sakes, youre on your own. Many popular anime contain adult oriented content, and those anime will be marked with a header bar of pink warning signs.

What is considered anime for the purpose of the AAP?

The Japanese definition of anime is anything animated, be it 2D, 3D, or any other form of animation. For the purpose of this project, we are using a much more western definition.

We review Japanese made animation, usually 2D. This does not include games or visual novels at this time as that isn't something I can access easily.

We also don't deal in manga here as I find it too hard to follow while also constantly stopping to take notes.

Cowboy Bebop is definitely not for younger audiences but it shouldn’t have anything too heinous

I'll add it to the list! I dont do this just for adults though hahah, I do it for anyone who's getting into something, including kiddos who may not be supposed to. Can't stop em, so might as well try to keep them a little safer!
