@flamesignite asked: [ 🖐️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat do their hands feel like: soft, calloused, trembling ??
Character Analysis Headcanons | Currently Accepting.
Riza has handled guns and ranged weaponry for much of her life, leading her to have calloused hands. She started young by hunting on her property and around it, starting with simpler weapons before eventually working her way up to using a hunting rifle. Though, that isn't to say she does not take care of her hands: she does. She regularly trims her nails, and she's careful about what lotions and soaps she uses. Her hands would still feel somewhat soft to hold because she takes good care of them, but there are callouses.
From years of shooting, and all the time she spent around her father, Riza's hands are perhaps some of the most steady in Amestris. Not much can make those hands tremble. After all, could trembling hands do this?
Or this?
Or this?
As a reminder for that last one: she hit Scar in the leg while she was in a moving vehicle that she was in control of. That takes not only incredible skill and practice, but also steady hands. In each of those GIFs, she is not wavering once.
Furthermore, to be a sniper, her primary job while in Ishval, she had to be steady. She earned a reputation for her precision, aim, and kill count. We don't know what it was, but we can assume it was high based on what one of the officers said during the Promised Day:
"Considering that they have 'The Hero of Ishval' and the infamous 'Hawkeye'... don't you think it's odd that we don't have any casualties?" (Fullmetal Alchemist, Chapter 89: Soldier's Return)
Sniper rifles aren't light either. They are heavy. In order to not tremble using them, Riza needed to build up strength and practice extensively. Just take a look at Riza's usual weapon here:
There are many reasons Colonel Mustang keeps her at his side, and her steady hands are near the top of the list.
“In the Highway Nemesis narrative, the American highway becomes a nightmarish no-man’s land in which the conventional rules of law, order and polite society hold no sway. Journeys which should be straightforward become terrifying, repetitive ordeals revolving involving cat-and-mouse chases, near-death experiences and brief pit-stops at roadside locations which (...) seldom prove to be places of sanctuary. Our protagonists are pitted against fellow travellers who perceive the freedom of movement and anonymity facilitated by the highways as a licence to do whatever they want, to whomever they like.”

So, I was talking to Quen this morning, and she got me thinking about Roy’s hearing. Because, honestly, how is this man still hearing so well after Ishval?
Look at how close he is to that explosion. That shit is loud. We know that his explosions do cause momentary hearing loss since we see that during the Promised Day. Roy, though, is present during all of his transmutations, and he’s relatively close by. He can perform them at a distance compared to other alchemists, but sound travels.
I’m not that great at estimating distance, but I’d say that’s at least a couple hundred feet away---probably more. No way in hell did Roy not hear that explosion.
So, what’s his hearing like? How is he able to hear so well? In Ishval, it’s possible that he used earplugs to protect his eardrums. That would be logical, and he probably learned to do so after the first time. Afterwards, though? When he’s stationed in East City and Central? He makes a point to not use his alchemy that much at all unless absolutely necessary. So, why would he bother with ear protection?
I mean, he might still carry earplugs with him, but they’re not going to be as vital to him as they were in Ishval. Even then, would they have completely protected his hearing? It’s unclear. This might also explain why we don’t see many soldiers close to him. They tend to keep their distance and go in after him.
(Chapter 61)
Roy has no idea who’s in his own squad. I don’t think that’s just because he doesn’t talk to other soldiers. I think it’s because his squad needs to keep their distance to stay safe (for the sake of their hearing and not getting burned).
Now, technology is a bit mixed in the FMA universe. Automail and prosthetics are common when, in the real world during those years, they weren’t. Behind-the-ear hearing aids weren’t really available until the 1950s for us. In the FMA universe, it’s possible they could have been invented sooner, especially with how ingenious automail engineers seem to be. Roy probably wouldn’t have them---he clearly doesn’t in the manga and anime. But, later down the line? He could acquire them when he gets older.
The point of this post? It’s just me wondering how the hell Roy can hear as well as he does after the hell he went through in Ishval and then some. No wonder some people thought the State Alchemists weren’t even human.
The armorer: have you ever removed your helmet
Din:
MEIS! LIO STILL DOESN'T LIKE METAL! I THINK YOU NEED TO ASSUAGE HIM!!
Meis: ..."Tasteless" is a rather bold and labeled word.
Lio: We all have our own tastes in music. And I don't like metal. It's that simple.
Hey, I got tagged by the darling @yournonlocalpoc to post 10 gifs of your favorite movies without naming them and then tag 10 people. I tag, @zetsubonna, @afro-elf, @writeroffates, @bittylildragon, @smitethepatriarchy, @honestly-how-do-you-art, and, uh...whoever else wants to do it! Feel free!
I wanted to make this a little bit more concise by having the gifs side-by-side, but I couldn’t quite make it work. Thanks so much anyway to @yournonlocalpoc for trying to explain to me anyway. Thank you!!
So here goes!
Come on now, who do you think you are?
Hahaha! Bless your soul!
You really think you’re in control?
