SO I SAW YOU POSTED AN ASK MEME!!! 27 for Lou and Jack, 32 for Olivia, and 6 for Will! (And 1 for the original trio if that's not too many haha)

Honestly there’s never too many, I could answer questions like this all day.

1. GO-TO KARAOKE SONG? // TRIO

Will hates karaoke (he’s a little tone deaf and it’s humiliating and also why) but he will let Olivia drag him on stage because she’s scary and he loves her. They do a pretty great duet of “Summer Lovin’” from Grease.

Jack absolutely refuses to do karaoke. Unless he’s really super drunk, then he makes a surprisingly good Jon Bon Jovi.

6. MOST THREE RECENTLY WATCHED ON NETFLIX? // WILL

Will would primarily use Netflix as a distraction, so he mostly watches comedies like Arrested Development and Master of None. I also like to think he discovered The West Wing while he was on an extended leave between assignments and binged all seven seasons in like, a week.

27. DO THEY HAVE ANY TATTOOS OR PIERCINGS? // LOU AND JACK

Lou’s got two piercings in each ear, she also had a stud in her nose at some point but her last boarding school didn’t allow piercings in their dress code and it closed up. She did toy with the idea of getting a tattoo when she was around fifteen or sixteen. She mentioned it to Olivia to see if she could get a reaction and Olivia started throwing out ideas instead. That took all the fun out of it and Lou never actually got around to getting the tattoo.

Jack’s got a couple of tattoos; he got his first when he was fourteen, when one of the older burn-out kids he hung out with got his hand on some tattoo needles. He wanted something more elaborate, but his friend wasn’t particularly artistically-inclined and he ended up with a shitty (and now very faded) tattoo of his initials on his upper right arm. 

His second he got soon after he finished his Agency training and moved to the Capital – a bomb with a lit fuse on the inside of his left forearm. (He tried to talk Will into getting one too, but he politely declined.) Ironically, Jack suffered a pretty bad burn on that arm during one of his early Agency assignments, and that messed up part of the tattoo. Though, of course, in Jack’s opinion, that only makes it look cooler.

32. IF THEY COULD HAVE A SUPERPOWER WHAT WOULD IT BE? // OLIVIA

Flying. Who doesn’t want to fly? That would be rad as shit.

4. Favorite character you’ve written

Oh, man. It feels predictable, but I think I gotta say Jack Malarkey. I probably spend more time musing on his thoughts and motivations than anyone else. He’s interesting and he’s layered and he’s a riot to write – he can be absolutely hysterical or a just a bottomless pit of pain and misery and I love it. 

That being said, Jack’s only interesting in the context of his relationship with Will and Olivia, which is why I still insist I don’t really have a “favorite” member of the trio. They’re a package deal, you know? They’d all be so bland on their own.

9. What, if anything, do you do for inspiration?

This isn’t my idea and for the life of me I can’t remember where I stole it from, but I read a thing once that argued that in order to produce media, you need to consume media, you can’t just conjure it up from the ether. Essentially, watching/reading/listening to others’ creative works is like fuel for your own. It alleviates some of my guilt when I Netflix-binge. Like, yes, it’s totally legit to spend my entire weekend watching Stranger Things, this is important to the writing process.

Mostly I’m just a believer in this because I have cribbed from so many books and TV shows and movies and honestly, point to any moment in the 19/88 books and I can probably tell you the three or four pieces of pop culture I stole it from.

24. Have you ever become an expert on something you previously knew nothing about, in order to better a scene or a story?

I am nowhere near being an expert on guns or anything, but holy shit have I spent so much time reading about guns. I don’t get too into the weeds in 19/88 but at the very least, I try not to sound like I have no fucking idea what I’m talking about. Fortunately for me, this has all coincided with my dad deciding that Obama was going to abolish the second amendment, so he started collecting about the same time I started writing.

You know what makes for great research? GETTING TO FIRE AN AR-15*. Something I probably would have never been interested in if it wasn’t for the fact that this is the kind of shit I write now. Still trying to convince my dad that I really mean it when I say I want him to take me out shooting sometime. For science.

* I think it was an AR-15. Maybe? Something like that. It was a big damn rifle. Honestly, I really don’t know guns.

Olivia Blake, 7 & 9!

6.* Are there any events in your character’s life that they feel wholly negative about, no silver lining whatsoever?

* Since I already answered 9, we’re swapping this for 6, right? RIGHT. Cool.

Well, besides that whole mess with Kendrick back in Nineteen, which she really didn’t enjoy, I’d say she views her time at college as a waste of time and an altogether miserable time in her life. She made some friends, and went to some pretty awesome parties, but she also hated all her classes and missed Will and Jack like crazy. 

I think she went hoping it’d be good for her to get away from them for a little bit (something she was probably right about, I’m not going to pretend their codependency is necessarily healthy), but she sort of just felt isolated more than anything else. College was just high school on a larger scale, and no one she met there had any clue about everything she’d just been through. And because Will and Jack were in basic training, she couldn’t really talk to them, either. It was basically a semester and a half of trying to pretend she was the same girl she’d been back in Everly, a girl she most definitely wasn’t anymore.

So, yeah, really not that big of a surprise that she ditched all that for the Capital.

7. Does your character have any unfulfilled dreams that can never come true?

To be fair, her biggest dream was primarily getting the hell out of Everly, preferably to live in some busy, glamorous city... and she’s kind of got that. And she’s happy with it. But that doesn’t negate the fact that it was all kind of decided for her after everything that happened junior year. There was no way she was ever going to have a normal life after all of that, and that tarnishes it all a little.

That might be stretching the definition of an “unfulfilled dream,” because it’s not like she had any grand ambitions of being a hairdresser or a teacher or anything, but she’s always going to be a little upset that she didn’t get to figure that out for herself.

12. things you said when you thought I was asleep

By now, Olivia should have known better than to try and match Will and Jack drink for drink. She’d been able to pull that off in high school, but they’d been Agency operatives for nearly a year now, and Olivia was pretty sure the first thing they taught you in basic training was how to hold your liquor.

They were back at the apartment now and still at it; Will and Jack were two drinks in, but Olivia had been nursing the same beer for a half an hour. She knew she wasn’t going to finish it, she was already falling asleep. The couch was way too comfy, and she’d been up at five to staff a meeting for Nash, but at least she could sleep in tomorrow… maybe to six-thirty or seven, even…

At some point during the conversation, Olivia must have drifted off, but not for very long. When she woke up again, her head was on Jack’s shoulder, and he was drinking her beer.

“You’re really not going to call her again?” she heard Will ask.

Christ. If they were talking about the girls they’d hooked up with, Olivia was definitely going to feign sleep for a little longer. There were only so many ways she could remind them they were idiots.

“Why the hell would I call her again?” Jack didn’t seem to notice that she’d ever opened her eyes. He shifted in his seat a bit, careful not to disturb her, and dropped an arm around her shoulder.

“You liked her, didn’t you?”

“Yeah, I just…” Jack shrugged and took a sip of his beer. “She knew I was an operative, she knew what she was getting herself into.”

Olivia could practically hear Will rolling his eyes. “So you’re not going to call her because you think you’re contractually obligated to be an asshole?” he asked. “Come on, she was awesome, she served us free drinks all night.”

“Yeah,” Jack said again, quieter this time. “I don’t know. She’s not Olivia.”

It came so far out of left field that Olivia didn’t even know how to react. Normally she’d sit straight up, and probably hit him, asking what the fuck that was supposed to mean. But she didn’t, she couldn’t. She lay there, as still as possible, waiting to see what he said next.

“What’d you say?” Will wasn’t asking out of disbelief; he legitimately hadn’t heard him.

“Nothing,” Jack muttered, shaking his head. “Never mind. You wanna grab me another beer?”

Talc the smallest of the lands was small much smaller than all the others. It was mostly rocks and mountains where men would go under and find the most precious of metals to send all around the world which no other land was able to do. They were strong and were the warriors.

i typically don't give much of a shit about billy shakes -- i'll concede his importance and influence and genius especially when it comes to the language he LITERALLY FUCKING CREATED; and hamlet has some gr8 soliloquies -- but DAMN do I LOVE much ado. it's pretty much my fave play EVER, particularly when the cast is good, and I AM SO SAD THAT I CAN'T WITNESS PEDRO CHEWING THE SCENERY AS DON JOHN.
