Episode 193: The Desperate Revival - The Promised Place

Ooba-san will always have 100 answers for all of Shinichi’s 100 stupid questions, except for…. “Pink Pearl.” He deduces that Ooba-san is the culprit because the light from the elevator revealed that the girl’s earrings were pink, when in the dim lighting, they were nothing more than grey orbs. Shinichi is also suffering some heart attacks while solving the case. Haibara meets him in the bathroom later, and does not seem to care that Shinichi is grasping the mirror, and writhing in pain. She’s more concerned about timing how long he can last before he turns back into Conan. He returns to Ran, who goes through multiple personality changes while she comes to terms with Shinichi’s second abandonment. This includes shouting at Conan that she didn’t want to hear what Shinichi had to say, crying, laughing, asking him to stay for dessert, eating at least five ice cream sundaes, and passive aggressively passing judgment on Shinichi’s character. Mouri has to wait in the car for several hours. Also, the reason why Shinichi wanted to take Ran to this fancy restaurant, which she thinks is show-offy, especially if he wasn’t going to tell her anything important, is because it’s the same place his father proposed to his mother……The Legendary Couple.

I really loved this scene between Naruto and Boruto!

First of all, the mood in the scene is impressive. Mostly the lighting; when showing Boruto’s face, the picture is bright due to the light coming in from the window, yet when it’s Naruto’s face, it gets darker, the light from behind him shading his face. It fits the mood perfectly. As for the sad music in the scene, while it could’ve started earlier, I can understand why it started after Boruto realized Naruto was talking about himself. It reflects not only Naruto’s, but also Boruto’s feelings.

Second, I’m glad that Boruto actually brought up what bothered him, and even happier with the way Naruto handled it. First, he assures his son that he has the situation under control (I didn’t put that scene here because there were already so many pics and that’s not as relevant for this post as the rest), and then proceeds to tell why he decided to do things this way, instead of just saying that his decision is final and leaving it at that. Of course, he makes it clear that he isn’t changing his mind, but he’s still ready to hear Boruto’s opinion and to explain his own reasoning. That’s exactly how an adult should handle important decisions. 

The third point is a little darker, something that I didn’t even really catch the first time watching this scene. The thing is, Naruto looks so sad here, which tells us that as happy as he is with his life now, the childhood trauma(s) is still haunting him. No wonder there; I don’t think that he ever had much of a chance to talk about it with anyone aside from his dead parents, who he probably didn’t want to worry too much, and what’s worse, I don’t think anyone ever actually apologized for how they treated him. That’s one thing I never liked about the series; even after he became the hero of the village and later of the whole world, we saw not one of his old tormentors step up and apologize. This is something even Kumogakure does better since Motoi eventually, after around 30 years, steps up and apologizes to Killer Bee, the eight tails’ jinchuuriki, after regretting the way he treated him for years. So, yay for Motoi of Kumogakure, nay for all the shinobi of Konoha!

And as a very unpleasant cherry on the top, Naruto now thinks that the treatment he received was understandable due to the circumstances. I mean, in a sense yes, but the way he says it it’s like he thinks it can’t be helped and that the people of Konoha don’t owe him anything, like an apology. And that’s just sick; they’ve made the victim, in this case Naruto, think that they didn’t do anything that they should apologize for. Konoha did victim blaming, and it worked on Naruto, full force. Actually, I think it might’ve already worked on him as a little kid, since he seemed to think that only after he’d become Hokage, the villagers would start respecting him as a fellow human being. As in, he had accepted the fact that he had to work hard just to get some basic human decency which everyone else takes for granted. And that’s depressing.

But yeah, good episode!

- Seems like the student body is happy with Cecile as the new Jack. I’m curious as to how here secretive nature might affect the Royals considering it’s the reason why Seraphina never chose her in the first place

- John’s really reminding me of NB and I really don’t like it. I think the press will either pity Cecile for having to write that in the newspaper or question her authority

- The queen has spoken and she is correct

- Cecile is literally the only reason why John was able to conceal his identity for this long. She diffused suspicion, gave him plenty of information on the Royals, and got the scoop for him whenever he needed it. Pay it back you douchebag.

- Damn he really just got embarrassed in front of all those people. The same ones who probably watched him bully John when he was a “cripple”. Ironic.

- I’m actually really happy to see that they’re becoming friends again. Arlo is becoming more accepting of Seraphina’s decision to leave the hierarchy and is actually loosening up more himself. Seraphina’s taking things more seriously and is actively trying to do her part now and isn’t ditching responsibilities as much. Positive growth!! :D

- Well Terrence was just at that meeting so chances are, he won’t join. I don’t know about you but as much as I’m interested in high-rankers, don’t wanna get killed by one :)

- I’m not the only one who’s super excited for some Arlo - Safe House moments right? I hope they study Terrence silently instead of confronting him, though I’m sure they’ll be discreet, y’know since this is all illegal-ish stuff they’re treading on.

- Roland is one of those side characters with a good heart. I honestly like him a lot. He’s pretty neat. And he protects cinnamon roll Evie and he’s a cinnamon roll himself :3

- No he is not. John needs to get his act together, put aside a grudge and help them. You know what I wanna see?:

“Hey, I know we dislike each other and we have some issues, but I’m willing to put them aside for right now so we can focus on the bigger issue.”

Too much to ask? He’s just too petty :/

Yo-kai Watch Episode 193 English Subs

Happy Halloween, my fellow fans of ghosts everywhere! I hope you’re enjoying the creepy festivi aaaaaaah who am I kidding it’s friggin March lmao. Seasonal dissonance aside, the only new Yo-kai shown off in this episode was Kizunameko from Yo-kai Watch 2. Kizunameko could have a couple of different interpretations: nameko is the obvious part, coming from the mushroom breed of the same name ( 滑子 /ナメコ, commonly written in katakana as shown here), but the rest of the name may come from kizuna ( 絆 /きずな), “bond,” or be a shortened form of the phrase kizu wo nameru (傷をなめる/きずをなめる), "to lick wounds.” Her English name, Tongus, combines “tongue” and “fungus,” removing any reference to her role as a healer from the name. She did have a cameo in the first movie, but surprisingly, this late in the series really is her episodic debut. And as for our little “What’s that reference” game, Jibanyan’s weird thing with the Yo-kai Sniper and the quote in the picture above is a reference to the rather popular classic manga Golgo 13, which started in 1968 and is apparently still running to this day, if you could believe it. The main character is an assassin with many different aliases, which could explain why adorable Jibanyan seamlessly transforms into an impersonation of his character. This episode is only part one of 2017′s Yo-kai Watch Halloween special (the last one of the original series!), so see you next time with part two of this Halloween-in-Springtime treat!
