EPPC World Café on Workforce Shortage Issues
Everyone is aware of the roadblocks providers are incurring with the shortage as well as the retention of direct support professionals. Sometimes just a simple discussion among other providers who directly face this problem can bring forward ideas and ways to help you as an agency move forward. East Tennessee has always presented a great desire and effort to participate in and initiate topics to enrich the lives of people supported. At the top of the list: DSP’s who are stable, caring and dependable. Given that the EPPC and TNCO are collaborating toward providing agencies the opportunity to share valuable information Agency to Agency (A2A), this first event offers the first of many series of meetings in which providers will be able to share what is working and not working in their respective agencies.
The East Tennessee Policy and Planning Council (EPPC) and Tennessee Community Organizations (TNCO), with assistance from the East Tennessee Regional Office (ETRO) and Central Office, will be hosting a World Café Friday, September 21, 2018 from 10:00 AM through 12:30 pm in Knoxville at the DHS location 2700 Middlebrook Pike Ste 100, Knoxville, TN 37921
Your agency may have attended the successful World Café ETRO held in 2017. Using the same format, the topic will be Staff Recruitment and Retention. The East PPC has taken this critical problem as our 2018 focus in collaboration with TNCO.
Upon signing in at the Café, Provider agency representatives will be handed a card with different color indicators corresponding to different tables. Each table will have a host from EPPC or ETRO, who will keep the discussion on target related to a question asked from the facilitator. Time will be limited at each table and then participants will move onto the next table for a different question. Afterward, the top three topic items will be gathered, evaluated and assessed based on the level of change needed and sent back to the EPPC. Additionally, the notes and suggestions from this Café will be compiled and sent to all participants to include the sharing discussions from all tables.
We look forward to seeing representation from all providers in the East Region. Due to anticipation of heavy attendance, we are asking each provider to send no more than three representatives and one of them must be a Direct Support Professional. We look forward to a day of thought-provoking and mentoring ideas. Please RSVP to Marla Stair, EPPC Liaison at [email protected] no later than August 20th to ensure space for attendees.

Remote Apple Events allows you to use AppleScript routines to control another Mac; however, if you have installed the latest security updates for OS X, then you might find your scripts and any programs that use Remote Apple Events may not work, and give you an error. This may be especially true for communication between systems running OS X 10.8 and 10.9 Server, and OS X 10.10. (more…)

Planning and Policy Council Vacancies
When DIDD became a department in 2011, the Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) was updated to reflect this change and also to create Statewide and Regional Planning and Policy Councils (PPC), as well as a Developmental Disabilities Statewide PPC to allow for public collaboration on issues affecting the department, people we support, and those interested in our services. The department appreciates the input and ideas these Councils have generated. Four of the five councils will have vacancies in the near future. We need your expertise and experience because we value your opinion. The department urges those who are interested in serving and willing to volunteer their talents and time, to complete an Interest Form. A link to the form is available here. http://www.tn.gov/didd/PPC/index.shtml New council members will begin their service in January 2015.
Pursuant to TCA 33-2-202 and 33-2-203, the Developmental Disabilities Statewide, East Regional, Middle Regional, and West Regional PPCs shall have the following purpose:
The Councils shall advise the Statewide Planning and Policy Council (SPPC) on a desirable array of prevention, early intervention, treatment, and habilitation services and supports for persons supported and their families, and such other matters as the Commissioner or the SPPC may request; and provide information and advice to the department on policy, formulation of budget requests, and development and evaluation of services and supports.
We look forward to the input and ideas council members will contribute and welcome this collaboration between DIDD, persons supported, families, providers, and advocates. The deadline for form submissions is December 19, 2014. Forms can be returned via e-mail to [email protected] or by mail to Hollie Campbell, Deputy Director, Policy and Innovation, 400 Deaderick Street - 9th Floor, Nashville, TN 37243.
