yks mun mielestä käsittämättömimmistä ja ärsyttävimmistä jutuista englannissa on se et niillä ei oo yksittäistä suoraa hyvää käännöstä sanalle "kallio". Niinku siis ?????? miten

Do you ever have those fandom things that you'd really like to write a proper essay about but you're just not like. smart enough for it?
In Tolkien fandom one of those things for me is definitely Tolkien's, I don't know, fascination, for lack of a better word, with characters who lose one or both parents at a young age. Like there's individual ones who get talked about a lot from that angle, but I would be really interested of like, taking a look about all those many different characters all in comparison and seeing what that says
Because it's certainly a theme Tolkien seems to return to, over and over, with different characters, different angles, different circumstances. From Fëanor to Aragorn, from Túrin to Frodo, there's so many different ones, some who thrive and become well-adjusted, and some who don't, some grow up in better circumstances than others, like, there's so many and so varied ones.
I can't help but think it might be a topic Tolkien was drawn to because he was orphaned as a child himself. It would seem very understandable, really, being drawn to wonder about the possibilities of how it could have played out in different circumstances
But like. Yeah idk it's one of those things I keep thinking about but I'm not really smart enough to write anything coherent or meaningful about it or what new things you might see when you look at the different characters side by side. idk
Sometimes I really wanna make up my own balrog design for fanart - no horns, playing more heavily with the shadow aspect, probably no wings (maybe more "cloaked in living shadow that can appear as wings sometimes")
but also hhhhh it sounds so complicated idk if i can be bothered
I honestly just CANNOT deal with the fact that Doc got Joe with an anvil because Joe was looking for photos of himself to convince people of his sexiness??? due to the tumblr mcyt sexyman vote
just. you can't make this shit up.
i am fucking dying of laughter like. just. HOW. how is thsi a thing that happened
Maybe it's just me, but one reason I love getting comments on Ao3 that point out details of the fic that the commenter liked, is that for a moment it lets me see the fic through their eyes
Like, I have a pretty big self-criticism problem, like usually within 24 hours of posting a thing, be it a drawing or a fic or whatever, I start finding more flaws than good sides in it and feeling that actually it's a pile of shit, utterly pointless and bad and thoroughly unlikable. I know this is my issue, and something I need to work on, btw, but I just. struggle ever seeing the good sides of my own work. Even work that was an idea I truly deeply liked and wanted to see done! Even things I enjoyed working on!
But when someone leaves a comment that's like "oooh I like how [x] and I love [y] detail!!" it kind of. Let's me for a moment see past my own issues. It lets me look at the work, and the details pointed out, and go "you know what? yeah, that thing there is very good". Sometimes, on a good day, it might even give me enough time to actually re-read my own fic and enjoy it
So, readers: if you read a fic, and there's a detail you like - no matter how big or small, whether a minute detail of the description of someone's clothing, or something about the way the story is structured, or literally anything! - let the author know! If there's any detail that stood out to you in a way you liked, and you feel at all inclined to leave a comment, then please, let the author know the detail that caught your eye! It can brighten up their day so, so much!
Oops, I'm once again rotating the fic idea I have where Dernhelm is a real existing person (probably a child of Elfhelm, and probably a closeted trans woman) who Éowyn swaps identities with when she goes to war
maybe one day i should actually plot it out properly and give writing it a shot...
minä just ny: löytysköhän jostain joku kunnon vanhanaikanen foorumialusta minkä avulla voi perustaa jonkun ex-suomitumblr foorumin...
