VOIGT & VOIGT 'ERDINGERTRAX'
Two brothers and their favorite beer, what of it? When it is the right brothers, as in the Voigt brothers, it is guaranteed to be one of two things; either a toe tapper or a head-scratcher…or in this case, the perfect rowdy accompaniment for drinking beer to.
This is the culmination of their Erdingertrax series, ode to their favorite beer, Erdinger. It is during this process of drinking and music making that the two siblings forged the newly created genre, beer Techno. What does it all mean? Does it really matter? Just keep lifting the glass in time with the beat, over and over and over again. Let your head bounce in time and if the feeling hits before the nausea does, get up and dance.
Typische of the Voigt sound, there is a constant pounding, a relentless one, exactly like the kind of pounding headache one gets from too much drink. It would be a good guess that it is that very same procedure in how the two brothers started and got completely lost in this new beer Techno world. The album is actually a compilation of the three successive EPs, and when listening to it as a whole, it plays out as almost a night of serious beer pounding would.
The first EP set the tone with the hopes of what may lie ahead in the river of golden nectar. Get hyped, get pumped, get dressed and get going. Maybe check your best moves in the mirror before the night officially begins. By the second EP, the lights and volume start to call to you like some sort of exotic nocturnal siren. The force is undeniable and yes, those are actually voices you are hearing. Inhibitions are dropping further behind as the glasses pile up and the pounding gets louder. Reinhard and Wolfgang try out some new stuff, bringing in a bit more structure for some steady dance floor action. Don’t worry; things are looking good for both you and the Voigts.
By the time the third EP came around (or, ¾ the way through the album) the alcohol is in full effect. Slightly numb, everything seems a little bit nicer. The lights keep you in a constant glow, no need to rush anything, just take your time and let the music wash over you. The need to lift another beer has slowed its pace. There is still enough in you to throw some class moves and still maintain your dignity. This beer Techno thing is actually quite fun!
As the night wears off and the vinyl run its grooves off, the sound of birds signal the fact that it truly has been a heady adventure. A perfect night of beer and beats. You haven’t even made it home yet and you are already planning your next Erdinger adventure. Reinhard and Wolfgang have just proven that techno need not be enjoyed by popping pills, but for some it can be just as fun by pounding Pils.
