A balmy, damp March has brought out a wave of spring ephemerals in the local woods. As I trekked through Core Arboretum yesterday, I imagined an impromptu primordial ballet playing out on the soft, moist earth where I walked: unfurling leaves, uplifting petals, swooning umbels. Life is bursting up through the dead leaf litter with a vengeance. In the midst of COVID-19 lock-downs, the only thing to do now is celebrate and embrace nature’s resilient spirit.
