Unpaid internships with for-profit companies have long been illegal. But it took a lawsuit against major motion picture company (Fox Searchlight) and a few former interns on the set of the Black Swan two years to gain recognition for this widespread practice of labor abuse. I spoke to one of the former interns, Alex Footman and a number of experts on the matter for an NPR story last year.
