Part One: Hello. I'm not going on anon because I'd hope that the fandom has enough decency to /discuss/ this with me and not call me names. And if they do, they do. I''m going to say here and now that I do NOT think the Intern is perfect, but I don't think it's bad enough to be getting the hate it is. When AO3 is back online I'm going to be picking it apart as well (I want to make sure that I can source). I'll have to go back and do it for these responses as well, but I thought I'd go ahead and
.... mention them. Point one- people seem to be taking Erwin as the cliche 'evil ex'. In my opinion, as a reader who doesn't like that trope, Erwin was not. In the begininning of the fic, Levi gave Eren his pov of what happened- which did paint him as the bad guy. But later on, when Eren went to his apartment, he got to hear Erwin's pov and realized that Levi was judging the scenario properly because he was hurt. Erwin said that he never intended to hurt him with what he did, only help and then proceeded to brainstorm on how to get Levi past the anger so he could continue a healthy relationship. He said that if Levi needed to see him suffer he would do it.
Emiza (I believe it was them)mentioned that Levi and Eren were going to use Armin, but that isn't the case. Levi didn't want to hurt Eren by using his friends, and Eren wasn't going to hurt Armin. It was actually Armin that came up with that plan in the first place, because he wanted Levi to get past the incident so Eren didn't have to let Levi know he'd known that Eren knew Erwin couldn't be 'brought down' like was the original plan. If I remember correctly the actually plan was just to make Erwin's wife leave him. (And Erwin had told Eren that she had already left because he cared about Levi too much, hence the 'issue' of how they were going to bring him down.) Levi wasn't aware of it, and the trio (Armin, Eren, and Erwin were actually manipulating the situation to try and help.) Even though it just made a bigger mess in the end. If people read Levi's POV chapters, you'd also see that Levi didn't want Eren to go after Erwin after the initial plan was laid out. He did care about him, and got REALLY REALLY upset when Eren chose to do it anyway.
As far as the other issues that have been brought up are concerned, I would love to discuss them in more detail. Here's a brief opinion that seems to differ from others, though. First of all: Mikasa left Eren without a word. She did. That is clear as day, but I don't think it was out of character. Grisha didn't abuse Eren until he saw him kissing Levi--Eren was perfectly safe at that house as long as he was not aware of what had happened between Grisha and Mikasa. I think Mika felt that it was safer for Eren to stay in the house unaware than live on the streets with her until she could get an apartment. I also want to mention here that when Levi found out, he sheltered her without a second thought, and actually brought them back together.I'm sorry for the long asks, but thank you for listening ^^ I /do/ believe that the fandom is heavy on the abuse factors and that bugs me more than I can say, but I want to make sure that people are able to take both sides of the argument and come up with their own opinion. c: The Intern- in my opinion- had faults that should be called out and addressed, but I do not think it deserves the hate it's getting.
I just want to start by saying these recent posts about the Intern are not hate--they're awareness and readers speaking out to warn other readers what this fic actually is. It does not represent healthy BDSM, it uses emotional and physical abuse, blackmail, etc. There are good things and bad things addressed in the fic and that's our point--to make sure people do not glorify those bad things (which they tend to do).
As I haven't read the Intern, I can't say much on the subject, but a lot of people who I trust have and are seriously concerned about it.
Again, our debates aren't hate--we're just aware of the popularity and almost worship of the fic, which has a lot of negative points.
