A Short Playlist - All That's Unclaimed
A Short Playlist – All That’s Unclaimed
The mind is mysterious. If I find myself banging my head against the wall, not knowing where to take a story, I often turn to music.
As I begin a work-in-progress, I also start a playlist. As I write, songs will hit me. Whether they describe the conflict or are songs that I believe my characters would put on repeat on their iPods, they get added. They can grow out of control. Sometimes exceeding…

This Singer Songwriter’s Protest Song Hits The Right Note For LGBT Equality In Arizona
Last week, the Arizona state Senate voted to pass a bill that permits people the right to discriminate based on their religious beliefs. Democrat opposers are already citing it as a backhanded way to allow discrimination against the LGBT community, but the bill could also pave the wave for doing so on grounds of race, gender, disability and a plethora of other factors.
The situation caught the attention of Tulsa-born singer-songwriter Eric Himan. Openly-gay and outspoken, Himan wrote and recorded the country-tinged “Not Going Anywhere Tonight” in three days and has released the track to let the Arizona legislators know exactly where he stands on the issue.
The accompanying music video provides us with a singalong opportunity along with brilliant viral potential, as Himan’s soulful performance and emotional lyrics break it down for the betraying legislators: “You can try to kick me out, but you can't force me back in . The way you're treating me and my friends, honey I call that sin”.
“I couldn't take it. I had to write this song and put it out there”, Himan says on his YouTube page. “I urge everyone to take it seriously. Bills like this could easily find its way across our country. Let's stop it now and continue our fight for our freedom to live as ordinary citizens with equal rights under the law.”
When I first heard the track, I thought it was loyal LGBT advocate Adam Levine, lead singer with Maroon 5. Eric Himan is seriously that good. He’s got a great range, a great tone and the song, of course, has a great purpose. Even better, then, that 100% of its proceeds will go towards fighting the Arizona bill.
To lend your support, you can download the track via Eric’s Bandcamp page, where you can also check out his other music.

What's a Hanukkah Elf?!
What is a Hanukkah Elf, you ask?
Check out this new holiday series I've been working on focusing on a new character, CHAI' (pronounced Hi with a hard clearing your throat sound at the beginning), The Hanukkah Elf. Mischievous like most elves, Chai' sneaks in my house and I kick him out. Apparently, not such a good idea.
