Tacocat, Sammi Lanzetta, and Control Top at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Currently on tour of support of their newest record, This Mess is a Place, Seattle’s Tacocat headlined Music Hall of Williamsburg and were joined by their current tourmate, Sammi Lanzetta. Opening the show was Philadelphia’s Control Top, who I’ve been meaning to see live for a while now.
I covered the live performances of all three acts and that gallery is now live on BrooklynVegan here.
Tacocat Bring Brand-New Album to Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday
More than a decade ago in Seattle, Emily Nokes (vocals), Bree McKenna (bass), Lela Maupin (drums) and Eric Randall (guitar) teamed up to form the anthemic pop-punk four-piece Tacocat, combining “the D.I.Y. attitude of punk with a humorously insightful lyrical approach that delves deeply into pop culture and politics both personal and large scale,” according to AllMusic. Employing what NPR Music calls “catchy hooks and subversive lyrics,” they’ve put out four EPs and four LPs, including the much-acclaimed This Mess Is a Place (stream it here), which arrived a couple of weeks ago on Sub Pop. “The band’s effervescent songs sure get your toes tapping, but the lyrics burrow in your brain and leave something a little more disquieting behind,” reports Paste. “This Mess Is a Place is exactly the kind of album we need in 2019. It sounds like rainbow sherbet and friendship bracelets. It eschews irony and defeatism. It calls us all to build a brave, colorful new world together—and have one hell of a good time doing it.” Currently making their way up and down the East Coast, Tacocat play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday night. Sammi Lanzetta and Control Top open the show.
On Wednesday, August 15, 2018, the tour featuring Seattle’s Tacocat and Providence’s GYMSHORTS came to Rough Trade NYC in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Tacocat are working on a new album and previewed songs from the forthcoming release.

I feel like I need to declare that I love Lelah Maupin. Thank you.

Chasing big money donors is a three-part process: first the begging, then the bagging, then the bragging.
That last is what two institutions of higher education are doing via full-page ads in today’s Boston Globe.
Let’s take them in numerical order. From page 7:

The hardreading staff isn’t quite sure why the ad ran in the Globe, and this USC puff piece doesn’t…
