He had a little sister. They had a rough upbringing... drunk, occasionally abusive towards their mother, father. He left when Erick turned 11. A few years later when they were finally getting back on their feet, their mom was found to be suffering from cancer. When she passed away it was just the two of them vs. the world.

One night she was walking home and was mugged by a small gang outside the building while he waited to greet her on the steps. Her shirt was ripped almost off, her face busted open. She was stabbed, several times, it hit her organs.

He wanted to call and ambulance but she wouldn't let him. She didn't want to be hooked up to machines like their Mom had been. He held her body as she died. The cops arrived, and suspected Erick at fault. Neighbors in fear of their own well being said they fought on occasion (as siblings do) and they found he had a 'violent' hobby... mixed with his size... They probably just to make a good news story because they couldn't control the area.

Erick ended up in a psychiatric hospital due to a mental break. Repeatedly called a monster, freak, murderer. His state gradually deteriorated more and more over time.

He truly believes Bray understands him, because Bray preaches not making their enemies suffer. Because he's felt too much suffering. Because Bray claims he held Abigail in his arms. He's never seen "Abigail" but he envisions her to look like... her.
