To say that she was surprised would have been a gross understatement, and the blonde couldn’t help but stand in shock as the reaper tore into her attacker, quickly ending him. It’s not as though she couldn’t have handled it herself she just hadn’t..noticed…

“I-I– Why did you..do that?” She quietly murmured, eyes not leaving the now bloodied corpse on the ground at his feet. She hadn’t exactly been the nicest to him, what would possess him to do such a thing?

William took in a deep breath as he regarded the front door to the London Grim Reaper Dispatch Association. He was incredibly nervous, but his face was stony and calm. Slowly he opened the doors and stepped inside, knowing that this was the first day of the perhaps an eternity of drudgery. 

He pushed his hair out his face and strode forward with purpose, head held high. With an adjustment of his glasses he joined the rest of the juniors and waited for his senior to be assigned.

Barely conscious, Rachel stared at the sky above. She could not move… well, maybe she could, but her body was too hurt and too tired to listen to her head, and she was just lying there, wondering if it would be the way she would die.

That was when she heard someone’s steps and Eric’s face appeared right above her. Unable to stop her laughter, she spat out some blood.

“You came to take me away, did you not,” she whispered, finding it difficult to talk now. All because of some people who had beaten her for several coins…

He wasn’t serious, was he? Sure he was in captivity, but sleeping on the floor with nothing? The countess furrowed her brows in thought, staring at him for a few moments before letting out an exasperated sigh. With the help of a few servants, she had him moved upstairs into a guest bedroom on the bottom floor, fire lit and covers over him. Of course he was still a prisoner, but for heaven’s sake, it was snowing outside!

She checked on him again in the morning, making sure he was there in the first place…

Her attention was brought to the speaker, bound in chains, sitting on the cold floor. In truth, she almost pitied him–after all, it was winter and the small place had no furnace–and still she left him ‘helpless.’

“I’m terribly sorry for that, dear.” The Countess sighed, watching him for a few moments before bending over and eyeing the cuffs around his wrists and neck. It wasn’t so bad…

“You are sure that it’s too tight? You couldn’t possibly live with it like it is… If you’re to be injured, your restraints are the last things I would want to hurt you.”
