It was a normal day in all respects, or what had become pretty much normal in any case. Zer0 was at their little cozy place in Overlook cooking a meal for two which they were going to bring over to Angel's place shortly afterward. They'd set a time to meet so she could finish her scavenging before Zer0 got her to eat some real damn food. Only the assassin didn't show up at her place at their meeting time. Nor after their meeting time. Zer0 was never one to be late, unless they got into a fight on the way in which case they would have messaged her to let her know they'd been delayed. Instead there was nothing, no sign, no call, no message.
If (when) she decided to check on them at home, it was a wreck. The door was obviously forced, food scattered about and crushed underfoot, score marks from blades marring the walls and floor. And splashes of black blood everywhere. In the usual pitch dark of their home it glowed residual reds, yellows, and oranges, far too much to have belonged to just Zer0, unless whoever had destroyed their home had killed them. But there were no bodies, no shell casings from a gun.
Only a single sword with a glowing blue blade laying under the remains of the table. Zer0 wouldn't have left their sword if they were still capable of keeping their grip on it.
Which begged the question of who had managed to get the drop on the assassin and where had they taken them?
