Bombus vosnesenskii, queen. Here on one of nature’s perfect pollinator plants, Erigeron glaucus. Megachile fidelis, the faithful leafcutter bee. I wish I knew what was behind the name of this species. At a glance it seems no more or less faithful than any other leafcutter bee. Unfortunately information like that about native bees is difficult at best to find. A bee. Of some kind. Once in a while I’m out taking pictures and a strange bee shows up and I haven’t the slightest idea what I’m looking at. Looks like it could be a Megachilidae of some kind. It’s super tiny. No greater than 5mm. It likes Erigeron glaucus/Seaside fleabane. Long-horned bee male (Melissodes sp.) at rest on a seaside daisy (Erigeron glaucus). At this time of year I scout my garden at sundown in search of sleeping bees. Usually I can find quite a few and this fellow was among tonight’s discoveries.
