Picture this: Tom is a serial killer who has been alluding the police, he kills convicts in the same MO to disguise his real targets who die in "accidents" or just disappear. Harry kills someone im self-defence, a stalker, or someone he gave evidence against. He can't go to jail, he refuses to suffer for just defending himself. He disguises his kill in the same MO as the mysterious serial killer. Tom knows this wasn't his kill and due to his lofty connections and access to surveillance tech figures out who Harry is very quickly. He then makes a deal with Harry, he won't reveal who he is if he does some "tasks" for him. It initially starts out innocuous and then drifts into morally ambiguous/immoral actions. A slow corruption at ots finest while Tom becomes more and more obsessed with his "pet project"

I know this kinda has Hannibal and Will vibes and you had serious intentions but all I could think while reading this was:

Tom: wait, that one's not mine, wtf?

*intense research montage*

Tom, figuring out it was Harry, watching him for a month do the following at least twice a week:

- trip over his own feet - forgetting to eat for days at a time - rescue a kitten from a tree unironically - volunteer at an orphanage

Tom: there's no way, absolutely not, this goes against nature

Tom: ...

Tom: i want him

When Mundungus Fletcher and Stan Shunpike enter the prison courtyard they are taken straight to the infamous Tom Riddle a.k.a Voldemort. There they are forced to detail the gruesome details behind their injuries and the child that inflicted them eliciting Riddle's curiousity. Demanding an investigation into the child Riddle soon finds out everything about him and he is enraptured. Seems like he'll have to escape sooner than planned, after all he can't let anyone but him have that child. Talents like those are wasted in suburbia.

Jordan, what do you think would have been influenced if Voldie got mentoring from European Celery?

Interesting question!

I think if European Celery had gotten claws into Tom at a young age (say pre-Hogwarts), Tom would have turned out way worse. Like omg. Boy was already bad before, but having someone like that raise him / mentor him would have been disastrous.

All of Tom's best habits would be honed and sharpened much faster, and his worst habits would be polished and smoothed out before they even finished forming.

I'm tossing up on whether Tom would ever create horcruxes, since European Celery probably wouldn't let Tom mutilate his soul...bbuutt I could see him also facilitating at least one being made just to see what would happen.

I could also see European Celery initially viewing Tom as purely an investment. There'd be that detached curiosity, like that of a scientist that wants to see how their experiment evolves, but over time I imagine their relationship would develop into something close to familial.

At their core, they are both possessive people. European Celery would find Tom amusing and he would be protective to a degree, as one would over a prized possession - but he'd also happily put Tom in situations that would force him to adapt and grow. There'd be some twisted pride every time Tom rose to and exceeded his expectations.

Tom, meanwhile, would put European Celery on the top of his hit list. Everything Tom was working towards would somehow be geared towards killing European Celery.

Either way, Tom being mentored / raised by European Celery would have drastically changed how he developed and likely would have made him a more terrifying Dark Lord!

Linking to my last question, do you think Tom would pick up any of European Celery's mannerisms that would tip of Dumbledore? Like I'm just imagining Tom wording something someway or some unconscioua gesture that Dumbles sees and just makes him immediately spiral into his memories

Absolutely! Dumbledore would take one look at Tom and just go oh no.

Maybe it's the cadence of speech, maybe it's just the language and words he uses. Either way, Tom would unconsciously emulate a lot of those subtle traits.

He'd totally hate it if anyone pointed it out as well 😂

For the bookstore AU would love if Walburga just converts the entire Back clan, so Lucretia, Cygnus, Alphard, and Dorea just start popping in

Would also be hilarious as Lucretia married a Prewitt and starts inducting them as well. Know it'll be a while off but Gideon and Fabian patroning pranks to Harry is a hilarious image to me

Excellent idea! I don't know if the AU would go on for that long, but it would be hilarious to sow the seeds that Harry is going to have generations of followers 😂

This mean my idea is sparking an au? Because your little piece already makes me want to beg for a snippet because you write tension and tiptoeing on a knife's edge as one of the best fanfic writers in the whole damn fandom

"I think I'm in love," Harry told him quietly.

Tom froze with his glass halfway to his lips. He glanced to the side, to where Harry was leaning against the bar, back and elbows braced against dark wood and hands tucked close but dangling comfortably.

"Oh?" he asked, placing his drink down so it wouldn't shatter.

Harry nodded, and though he was slouched and for all intents and purposes at ease, his jaw was clenched. He watched Tom from the corner of his eye, the same careful regard there mirrored back.

"Anyone I know?" Tom asked, still keeping his voice light, even as his fingers itched for his gun.

"Yeah," Harry turned his head, expression tight with warning. "Ginny, do you remember her?"

Of course Tom remembered her. The red haired little tart had been on the periphery of their life for weeks now. She was like a fucking weevil - crawling all over Harry whenever they saw each other, cajoling and teasing and utterly unable to comprehend the blood and filth that Harry was rooted in.

The only reason Tom hadn't sunk his knife into her pale, insignificant throat was because Harry had never reacted to her salacious overtures.

"I didn't know you spoke with her enough to build a relationship," he said.

He had miscalculated.

"We went on a date last month," Harry revealed, and Tom could feel the rush of adrenaline coursing through him.

"Well, I don't think one date is enough to - "

"We've gone out every few days since."

Tom fell silent. Harry watched him, cautious but not regretful.

How? When had Harry even had the time? They had had back-to-back contracts, had been living in each others pockets for the past year. This was the first respite they had had in months.

When had this bitch had the chance to hook her claws into Tom's friend?
