I'm starting to get there myself. Though, I have more problems with poke/tear holes than with wearing through (except socks, those I keep wearing holes into) Luckily I wear leggings a lot as an under layer, so small holes in pants are not a problem.
Socks are just the worst, honestly. The comfy ones are the quickest to get holes.

I try really hard not to use periods when texting short phrases because I know it has a Tone, but it’s such an ingrained habit at this point because I text in paragraphs so often.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it if it's your register! Plus if you do it all the time, people usually pick up that it's a Thing with you, and you're not angry. Like i said, when my sister does it it weirds me out a bit because I'm not used to it, but I'm know she's not upset because she's consistent. So your use of orthography is perfectly valid.

Does melatonin do anything for you? It doesn't work for some people but I use it to help me fall asleep and get deeper more restful sleep.
....to be completely honest, it works reasonably well, we have it in the house, and the only reason I’ve never thought to use it nightly or on a regular basis is because my mom keeps warning me about building up a tolerance every time I take it and it feels like my sleep issues aren’t bad enough for me to “deserve” taking a sleep aid on a regular basis. so. yeah. that’s maybe something I should try, thank you?

What urban fantasy novel?
It’s in A Trio of Sorcery by Mercedes Lackey and it’s the first novella (Arcanum 101). The thing is, the story was written in the 70s, but this book was only published in 2010. The author wrote an intro about how technology has changed, but, unless I’m misreading something, doesn’t spare one word to apologise for making the villain a gross caricature of a trans woman and invoking “having x genitals makes you y gender” aggressively. There is a lot of anti-Romani sentiment also, fyi.
