I'm starting to get there myself. Though, I have more problems with poke/tear holes than with wearing through (except socks, those I keep wearing holes into)  Luckily I wear leggings a lot as an under layer, so small holes in pants are not a problem.

Socks are just the worst, honestly. The comfy ones are the quickest to get holes.

No but seriously the entire reason I bought cheap canvas shoes (aside from their price, but I could probably have bought cheap non-canvas shoes that wouldn't wear out quite as fast) was so that I could feel the ground under my feet while wearing them. Helps sensory issues+makes it easier for me to balance. But yes, to respond to what was probably your original point, the downsides of mostly being able to buy cheap/used clothes instead of well-made ones are much more apparent when you are not growing.
