Rules
Does it still count if you change the rules? Sitting up in bed, laptop tray neatly in place, with the mediumest of bites of Non-GMO-Project Verified, Fair For Life, USDA Organic, organic, fair trade, made in Seattle Washington, sea salt, 70% dark chocolate on my tongue. Technically only contains 99% fair trade ingredients. Blasphemous! but you know, sacrifice.
It’s 2:00am and I haven’t fallen asleep. Most likely because I knew there was something that I wanted to do, but well, didn’t. Maybe the jet lag. My brain is somewhere in Europe. My body has never been. How does that. Whatever.
The goal I set for yesterday was to write at least one page in a Google Doc. It could be about anything, but it needed to be finished and ready to post. PAD, Page-A-Day. I’m doing it a second day. That makes it “a thing.” Although technically it’s after midnight, so it’s the third day, but only the second wake cycle. But I can’t base it off the wake cycle because naps. I just don’t know. Ugh, rules.
So... can it still be cheating if I change the rules? Is that like a metaphor for life or some such bullshit. Well, it’s not cheating if it’s consensual. If all parties involved are like totally ok with your happiness… then it’s not cheating. No rules were broken, because you discussed the rules with your words and junk; determining which ones needed an updating.
It’s not cheating if it’s consensual. So, one page, on anything, of anything, small page, large page. One PAGE a day. A digital page, a paper page. A note pad, a steno pad, a legal pad. Graph paper, square format, with wacom or quill. Page A Day.
Oh I’m sorry. Is this not an original idea? No shit. Pages be old ya’ll!
Time becomes an essential tool with which to carve the bust of your life. We master the things we spend time with. Patience. Attention. Commitment. Desire. Willingness. Bravery. Trust. Release.
It’s 2:00 am and I haven’t fallen asleep. Most likely because I knew. I knew I had unfinished work. I had words within myself that needed to flow. I had energy to dispel. I had pixels to decimate.
Wherever your day takes you, know that you have time. The distance between moments is immeasurable. Lean into the in-between. Lean into the gray between black and white, between 2:00 am and 2:01.
You are good enough. You do matter. People care. Not all, but enough.
The mind is running dry and you still have some of the page to fill up before you've released your burden and given it away. Wrapping up your words with a bow and gifting them to the universe, the net, the matrix, giving in and letting it be. Write me something.
