Curled up comfortably in the king of terror’s reading chair, was a human. She sat with a book from one of the many vast shelfs in Nightmare’s study, reading away as the rain pittered against the window beside her. Snapping the book shut, she sighed; how long was it going to take for he to read without it being annoyingly blurry again? Her eyes were still healing from their corrective surgery, it was irking to be able to read but the words be just blurry enough to cause a stomach swirling headache that neared an awful case of carsickness. She had to stay in low lighting and avoid sunshine like it was the plague, Plus it would take around three more months for her eyes to be back to normal. Well, better than normal actually- she would be able to kiss those glasses farewell after her eyes healed fully. A well spent investment of time and money but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.
Cloudy stood, folding the plush blanket she had gifted Nightmare for his birthday last December. It was a soft memory that made her smile despite the headache pounding against her skull.

You had brought up Christmas when talking about humans and their holidays, Nightmare had expressed remembering the villagers in his hometown also celebrating the holidays around the same time as his birthday… and that’s where it all started- the Skeletons and their want to celebrate human holidays. Whether you celebrated it or not.
It was December first; You had just woken up and made your way down to the kitchen through the halls of the castle. Of course, you had to pass through the main room where the king could dictate who was allowed into his home or not… the throne room. Commonly knows amongst those who lived here as ‘the living room’ despite nightmares indignant protests. But none the less when you passed through on your way to get breakfast, you had to notice it, the huge Pine tree that sat in the corner of the throne room; it was decorated even, it looked suspiciously normal considering the skeletons that stood beside it proudly. Cross’s ribs were puffed up in pride as he stood forward like a general reporting back after winning a year long war.
Turns out it had taken four hours of cross directing the others on how to properly decorate a Christmas tree for it to end up this picture perfect. Who knew that cross actually had a good remembrance on how the whole Christmas thing went? Even Error helped decorate the tree, he used his strings in the place of tinsel- and was very proud of his creativity on that part. They even replaced the star on top with a crescent moon in their Boss’s honor. Deny as he may, Nightmare was touched by the gesture. you were proud of your boys, even through horror insisting on hanging a whole ham on the tree. He was easy to convince against the idea with a little prompting of it going bad and being wasted if it sat on the tree.
Nightmare, Cross, Killer, Dust, Error, Horror, and you sat around the tree, with presents distributed and full bellies from Christmas dinner. Taking turns opening presents and thanking the Gifter for their thoughtfulness. You had gotten Nightmare a very nice simi-weighted blanket to cover up with when reading in his study, Horror had gotten a lovely new leather journal, Dust got a book on the birds he had been spending a lot of time watching recently, Killer got the Skyrim; elder scrolls for his Pc, Cross was given the set of runners he had expressed a lot of interest in last time you both went out together, Error got a new set of sound-proof headphones to enjoy his podcasts with. You even had Error take you to Fresh so you could give him the pair of outrageously color saturated Heelys that you found on sale while doing your Christmas shopping.
You enjoyed the time you got to open the gifts you received and also watching the boys open gifts from the others, after all, its not everyday you get to see such sweet domestic settings around here. Maybe it was the real smiles on their faces, or the way that we really did fit together like a really weird family. Either way, you enjoyed spending time here.

Blinking away the memory, I tuned back into the sound of my footsteps padding down the hall. I was going to the kitchen, hopefully Error is settling down for his morning hot Cocoa.
Everyone had an odd schedule that didn’t work well in theory but when you put all the pieces in place we all went about our day in peace. You wouldn’t expect that from some of the most chaotic bastard skeleton men all gathered in one place, but it was pretty tame.
I slowed as I looked around the throne room, it was empty, an odd sight since I expected Nightmare to be here like usual. Oh well, I can say Hi to him later if he pops up.
Continuing on my way, I could smell the sweet smell of chocolate. I got kind of excited, even those who hated Chocolate would like Errors hot cocoa; he just made it in a way that wasn’t too much nor too little, it was just perfect.
I rounded the door frame into the kitchen, making sure my steps could be heard over the low volume of the podcast he was currently listening too, just so he knew I was there. I still feel bad for last time I caught him off guard, panic wasn’t a good look on him.
“You want some too?” adding to the not sounding good in theory but is good in action earlier statement; the sound of a glitched voice wouldn’t sound appealing until you heard it from Error himself.
“Yes, please.” I hummed, taking a seat in front of the one that was pulled out at the large table. He looked content, getting an extra glass, and pouring me some of his favorite drink; I just had to smile softly at his back.
Error looked over his shoulder as he stirred the drinks “I made a new crochet pattern,” he nodded to the paper in front of me with design scribbles and notes all over it.
I moved to look at the paper better, it was a plushie sort of design. It was a cute and simple plush, I knew that it would take a lot of time and work for it to get done- even for master speed crocheter himself. It was a cool hobby, the finished products of his hard work were even cooler; especially since his strings had a kind of glow to them.
Error sat our mugs down and took his seat in front of me comfortably. Ignoring the podcast in favor of talking to me, “It looks cool! How big do you plan to make this one?” he made all kinds of plushs, blankets, sweaters, and more, but the one think that was constant through it all was he always made mini tiny versions all the way to huge supersized versions. I have a huge body pillow sized cloud he made for me in my room.
We talked for a while before falling into a comfortable silence as the podcast continued to play. It was nice to sit with Error like this and sip our drinks, he was such a comforting person to be around. He was the one who was most concerned about me going in for my surgery, his fear of doctors was understandable and very justified. I didn’t quite know what to feel about that; I found it endearing that he cared for me so much that he would even step foot in a hospital to see me before and after my procedure, but at the same time I was sad about the trauma he went through.
Of course, we eventually had to go about our days. He left with a soft grin, and that was enough for me to continue about my day in a better spirit than before.
Traveling back to the main throne room I hung left to head out the front doors, I could finally take a walk outside now that the sun had settled into dusk. I brought my sunglasses with me, just in case as I walked out the main door; I was bound to run into entertainment sooner or later.
I watched Cross doing hanging sit-ups from a tree close to the grounds used for training. He hadn’t noticed me approaching yet… I was tempted to spook him, but he was too off guard right now.
“Staying busy?” I jerked back, I guess he did notice me after all.
“just enjoying a walk outside.” He flipped himself back upright and dropped off the tree,
“then, you won’t mind if I join you?” it was a request to spend time with me, one that made the skeleton all the more endearing to my heart.
“sure, I don’t know where I was going though. I just wanted to get out for a while.” His pace matched up with mine,
“How about the lake?” he tossed a thumb to the path through the woods. It wasn’t that long of a walk to the lake… why not?
“lead the way” I grinned to match his as he offered a hand for me to take. The feeling of malleable bone was still something I wouldn’t get used to, but a comforting feeling none the less.
With pep in his step, Cross led me to the lake not to far from the castle. I didn’t react when a boney hand gently captured mine, but it did make my cheeks turn a little pink. who would have guessed Cross to be a romantic?
The lake wasn’t very far away, so it didn’t take long to get there. When we got close to the lake, My escort sat in the grass and offered me a seat as well. I was a little off put about sitting on the ground and hesitated for a moment before being tugged onto Crosses lap. “how’s the view, my lady?” he wiggled his brow bones suggestively.
I knocked his shoulder with the back of my hand, “alright, easy now, Casanova.” the view was stunning though- The sun had just settled enough below the tree line for my eyes to be free of strain, and the sky to be a beautiful gradient that was complemented by the few stars that had popped up; but the best part was, is the fish that were swimming around in their little pods. The lake was clear, a few ripples along the surface, and splashes of fish. “it is very pretty though, thank you for taking me out here”
“ah, you don’t need to thank me, Cloudy” I could feel his smile as he nuzzled a skeleton kiss to my cheek. I knew he appreciated it when people had manners, but it was something I had always done; saying please and thank you, I even said sorry a bit too much. But hey, in a multiverse filled with humans and monsters alike, very few cared for pleasantries.
We sat together through the entire sun set, until it got dark enough to see all the stars. I let him play with strands of my hair as We chattered, going over our days with each other before falling into a comfortable silence, then starting up conversation again before falling back into just staring up at the stars together.
Eventually Cross got a little antsy from sitting, so we got read to head back to the castle before it got too dark out for my still recovering human eyes to see. I watched cross fiddle around as we walked, taking off hi coat before holding it out for me to slide into; I suppose It was getting chilly out. I let him help me put on his coat, before he took my hand again, making sure I won’t get lost in the dark woods on our way back. I always loved the way their bright eyelights shined through the dark.
When we broke through the tree line, Cross walked me to the door before stopping short. “I’m on watch tonight,” I let him fiddle with the coat collar so it kept the cold out. “keep my coat warm for me, okay?”
“nope,” I shrugged the soft material off and held it out to him the same way he did for me, “I don’t care how much cold will go through you, if you’re going to spend the night out here you need to stay bundled up.”
He laughed, letting me help him put the coat back on “Okay, mom.” My smile quirked up a little more.
“don’t disrespect your mother, now get going or you’re going to be late to school” I waved a disciplinary finger, watching him howl with laughter as he walked away.
I waited until he was out of sight before going back inside. Sighing, I felt exhaustion take over me. I trudged my way to the bathroom to get ready for bed, and to put in my eye drops.
Walking through the quiet halls was comforting, being able to walk around and feel comply safe inside a huge palace of the “evilest sans in the multiverse,” said a lot. But It depends on who you ask what exactly it is saying a lot about.
Closing my bedroom door, the sound of a void opening made me turn a bit, looking for who was now in my room.
Something wrapped around me, shadowed by the dark “hello, darling. How are you healing?” a soft smile made its way to my face.
“well. how are you, Night?” he replaced the tendril with his arms, tucking his skull into the crook of my neck.
“It has been a very difficult day, but I managed it none the less.” I let him hold me for a few moments. Finding the gentle swaying very soothing, almost lulling me to sleep while I was still standing.
“Night, I’m so tired, lets go to bed,”
“Okay, time to get some rest, moonlight.” I trudged to my bed, tugging night with me by the sleeve of his night shirt. I knew he didn’t really get much from sleep, but he always was a cuddler. He likes to watch over my dreams, while his physical body rests as well.
Just as I settled into bed, and me and Nightmare got comfortable; letting the silence settle over us.
“Stop that” my grin grew so much it hurt my jaw.
“Stop what?”
“that insufferable emotion.”
“you love it, stop acting like you don’t.” I snickered and he sighed, snuggling closer.
“I suppose I couldn’t lie to you, even if I tried.” My smile was big but slowly slipped off my face as a lulled into a peaceful sleep.
I’m glad to have the evilest Sanses in the multiverse watching over me as I’m recovering from my surgery. I wouldn’t feel safer in any other hands.
For today's post I decided to make ink´s rainbow cocktail real, it was difficult to mantain the colors separated when the ingredients were completely liquid so I made them frape, and they were surprisingly tasty together.
