An apology.
We screwed up. We misunderstood our readership and our role. We disappointed our readers. And rather than beat around the bush, we're going to just straight-up apologize now, and emphasize that we do understand the seriousness of the allegations in the Penn State case. We simply wanted to have a conversation about a serious topic — the language used in sensitive stories — but instead caused a firestorm. We're sorry. We'll think harder about our posts and work to be respectful in terms of sensitive topics. If we screw up, let us know. We really, seriously did mean well there. And it won't happen again.
