I believe in aristocracy, though—if that is the right word, and if a democrat may use it. Not an aristocracy of power … but … of the sensitive, the considerate…. Its members are to be found in all nations and classes, and all through the ages, and there is a secret understanding between them when they meet. They represent the true human tradition, the one permanent victory of our queer race over cruelty and chaos. Thousands of them perish in obscurity, a few are great names. They are sensitive for others as well as themselves, they are considerate without being fussy, their pluck is not swankiness but the power to endure …
—E. M. Forster, “What I Believe,” in Two Cheers for Democracy
It's when I am empty that I'm able to see. I see the self and the world as a single whole that is also multiple, as me and also not me. I see the needs of living beings as necessities that require my action. I see how the failure to meet needs produces pain and suffering, which in turn causes other needs to go unmet.
I see that an end to this cycle is possible only with greater awareness. I see that I can help my awareness expand by becoming more flexible, open, and sensitive, which means I need to allow myself to pay attention to everything. I see that it is when I'm most attentive that I also understand how to act. I see that I need no instruction or command from others to tell me what is best.

A little story on sensitivity.
Recently, some boys tried to play a “prank” on the group.
The prank, though I won’t specify, involved bright light, loud sounds, and just things that are really grating.
You never know what will happen with “jokes” like that. Never, ever, try that.
The short version of events was: I don't think I can listen to anything right now and I’m terrified to leave my room. I scolded one of the guys, but the damage is done now.
The guy didn’t put any trigger warnings, so I told him about PTSD and sensory issues, but what can you do?
Please put warnings.
