The only time Erwin's seen Levi cry is when he promises. The gold band he'd chosen himself— so proudly staring at it hours after he'd acquired it— slipped onto Levi's ring finger with Erwin's calloused fingers, brushing against equally calloused and damaged skin.

The tears well in his eyes before he can even fight them off. Levi can see his reflection in the shiny gold, proof of it not being worn by another person, but made fresh specifically for him.

He'd whisper, with a wet, incredulous chuckle: "You know this isn't legal, right? Or do I have to explain the law to your dumbass?"

A gentle smile graces Erwin's lips, those same lips parting around a laugh. "I know it isn't legal, but when has legality stopped me from doing anything?"

His hand comes to rest atop Levi's, the coldness of the ring a firm reminder of his love and dedication. "My love for you will override any law."

And those are the last words Levi can make out before he starts to ugly sob deep into Erwin's chest. He never imagined he'd ever cry in front of Erwin, especially not like this— hiccuping between cries, tears streaming down his cheeks and soaking into the fabric of Erwin's pristine, white button-up while listening to Erwin whisper sweet nothings into his ear.

Levi never imagined he'd trust anyone to see this part of him: vulnerable, emotional, expressive. But Erwin knows just how to break through walls. And he's taken down the high, stone walls Levi's built around himself, allowing the sun into his space, now unguarded and co-owned by his fiancé.

And of course Erwin's proposal was completely private. In their private, shared quarters, whispering so nobody heard from the room over. But the matching gold bands on Erwin and Levi's fingers didn't go unnoticed by Hange or the cadets.

Headcannon currently ticking my mind:

While everyone else was talking to Eren in the Paths, Levi got to see Erwin again. They’re transported to a universe where they have the white picket fence life-a family, a house with a garden and Levi’s tea shop. Levi gets to live out that life and as they die together Notebook style, Levi is pulled out of the Paths.

I need way more time to write everything I want to.

Omg what’s like a nice regular date for levi and erwin? In a modern setting. Going to a nice restaurant? I like to think they like to try different cuisines once a week. Maybe one week Ethiopian food? Another indian food. And they talk about their fave ugh

-basically, their dynamic is erwin would worry that he doesn’t take levi out on enough dates while levi is confused as to why 1 erwin even worries about that and 2 they’ve had three dates this week (2 movie nights on the couch and a nap together).

-when it comes to fine dining, Erwin's definitely the one you might say seems to have the most "refined pallate" between them, but think of it this way: Erwin knows all about types of wine and can identify them by taste; Levi takes forever really savoring them, especially fine wine, but he doesn't know much about them (unless Erwin explained it🥴).

-Levi says he's not picky, but he orders the same dish EVERY time if he likes it well enough. Erwin encourages him to try new things, and usually he will.

-for partly that reason, they try different cuisines pretty often. i think Erwin would like Italian food the most, and Levi Chinese food.

-the other reasons are (1) Erwin is adventurous and (2) enjoys seeing Levi’s reaction to new things because before they met i see Levi as not really having the opportunity to enjoy a lot foods due to living pretty lower class? (depends on your modern au:)).

-it shocked Erwin how much Levi took to sushi despite how outraged he was at first about it being raw fish.

-Levi despises it when Erwin spends “too much” money on him (so like, the average amount), but Erwin loves splurging for Levi.

-they have a middle-ground where they spend money on each other.

-so it doesn't need to be said that Levi doesn't like fancy restaurants when they can get something that's "just as good" at a chain restaurant, but he is super into it, and more than he will express.

-not that erwin particularly sees anything wrong with chains/fast food, but for dates it's different.

-they're both slow eaters in general, but Erwin dies from old age waiting for Levi when it's gourmet. sits there super proper with the types of spoons and forks properly arranged, napkin in his lap (tho he does that anyway), etc. this is despite despising how superfluous he thinks all these rigid standards are. this is expensive, so he’s going to show Erwin he appreciates it to the fullest extent.

-they're the type of couple that's comfortable sitting in silence, including on dates.

-as for most of their dates: maybe this is unimaginative, but i think they find pleasure in simply spending time together. going on walks, reading, teatime, etc.

-Erwin’s a bit of a thrill-seeker though. bungee jumping, amusement parks, stuff like that!! levi is NOT, but if erwin's happy, then he can get some enjoyment out of these.

-but sometimes he complains a bit too much and Erwin starts to feel guilty. this is Levi’s nightmare and is quick to show him he’s exaggerating :((

-as mentioned, Levi sees together-naps as dates, but maybe that’s because he considers falling asleep as taking a lot of effort.

-but yes: being with Erwin for an extended period of time is a date to Levi.
