i mean the components are there, but the timeline is different?

it took walt way longer to understand jesse is worth looking after whereas it has been toms main goal since season 2? also, walt is no way as obsessed with jesse as tom is with greg, let's be honest.

i think that because of the history waltjesse have with each other before the show starts as well as walt being a condescending and egoistic character there is (at least for me) a line between them that isn't there with tomgreg that seems impossible to cross. which is probably intentional since jesse refers to walt as mr. white throughout the series.

but tomgreg are different even if tom is condescending towards greg as well, because he isn't nearly as egoistic as walt and genuinely cares about greg and the friendship they have nearly from the get go.
