THE MOUSE OUTFIT 'ESCAPE MUSIC' REVIEW
OUT 20TH MAY
Think Manchester. Think Hip Hop. Think The Mouse Outfit.
Here at StillMCR we're constantly singing the collectives praises and eagerly awaiting the next video or collaboration, so it may come as no surprise for our readers that this review may be a ikkle biased.
Highly anticipated and with no compromise in terms of quality/quantity this 19 track LP from the 9-piece is best described as 'tha shitt'. A modern blend of old skool boom bap influenced by genres such as jazz, soul, funk and reggae. Nostalgic yet fresh, and in every essence 'the mouse outfit'.
The long term collab and working relationship with DrSyntax is evident. Tight flows, good concepts (personal fave being 'Stay with Me' as I'm a sucker for a soul sample) and he's clearly brought just as much energy to the booth as he does the stage. If you're yet to catch these man live then make it a priority, they'll be making appearances at several festivals and venues this year.
Other than Syntax, 'Escape Music' also includes vocals from Sparkz, Dubbul O, (THE OG) Fox, Kosyne and Ape Cult's Truthos Mufasa, Black Josh and Lyricalligraphy. Safe to say -Manny is in the fuckin building. Genre defying tracks like 'Who Gwan Test' and 'Shak Out' are now nothing less than rainy city anthems, bringing a vibe like no other when dropped or performed at a range of nights. Silky vocals from Truthos and 'ard verses from Black Josh make 'Sit Back' another stand out tune. If hip hop was dead then there's been a resurrection. Original flows, bumpin bass, conscious lyrics and a common theme of one love and a bud throughout.
Bliss.
Digital release. Physical release to follow.
