Hello brilliant writer! Sorry for the suck. Ugh, LIFE. I dunno if this was the light relief you were looking for, but I really want to ask you whether you edit much, or whether lovely writing just flows out of you like a magical sparkling word spring? If the latter, have you found your first drafts have got better over the course of your writing life? Also do you plot really thoroughly before you start? Big love <3
STOP YOU FLATTER ME <3 my whole writing process is a blur tbh.
i don’t edit much, especially fanfic
i always plot before i start. now that i mention it: i edit outlines a lot, but actual prose, not really
"sparkling word spring” is the nicest compliment EVER thank you so much :’) it feels more like tripping in word puddles tbh.
i edit as i go, a bit. i’ll write a chapter over the course of like, a day or two, and in that time i write all out of order and add things and change things.
first drafts have definitely improved!!! mostly thanks to practice. i’ve been writing a lot more the last 5 years
most of my long fics had detailed outlines, and they all changed a bit (well, a lot wrt targeting lol) but all had clear plans
strong safety had no plan. i knew steve would sneak into bucky’s in the middle of the night, and i knew the cat-as-plot-device business, and other than that i just hit the gas and covered my eyes with my hands
all the targeting sequels were pretty thrown-together tbh
zero summer has a good outline, especially in terms of major plot points, but logistical details are still vague which is why i’m dragging my butt
when i get into a writing zone, it really is a blur. i still go back and re-read parts of stuff i’ve written and think “i don’t remember that at all. i wrote this? when did i write this? how did i even THINK of this?” (other parts i remember the process in great detail, it just depends on my state of mind while writing i guess.)
this is so nice dude thank you so much <3 <3 <3 i’m OVERWHELMED and i hope you have an awesome day :):):)
