This show is silly and morbid, but I love how it handles the topics it talks about. And I like how it portrays women (apart of their clothes).

It first presents the narrative that people tell, but then it dismantles it and shows what was the truth, and dispels the misconceptions about the women, while at the same time exposing awful nature of people.

Those villagers are the prime example of that. They never cared to get to know Esche, so they didn't know her personality or that what she did was to protect them from evil. They started to resent her because of assumptions they made about her and in turn forgone the blessings of protection that the Spirit of the World Tree (Esche) granted them.

They indeed chased out their protector and paid a price for it.
