Forty three little films - Germany
Ghost - Jamie-Lee Germany Finalist
The final film is Germany and another country with a national final performance as a film. As a big 5 country, I expect better, but it still may be in progress so I won’t berate them too much.
The German film begins with all lights off and Jamie-Lee is standing in a cloud with her silhouette on a full moon behind her. It’s very attractive and catches your attention and curiosity of what you are about to see. When the lights come on we see the trees on stage, the backing vocalists and Jamie-Lee dressed like a Japanese anime character. While the outfit is weird, she is young and it is a really pretty look. There is a panda in her hair; all good things happen with pandas (unless they are hungry - then you’re on your own). If there is a Barbara Dex award coming her way, it will be a disgrace. The audience get into the song as well making it an attractive film to represent the Germans.
The song is quite serious and is a little at odds with Jamie-Lee. But forget about the appearance and listen to the song. The song is moody excellence with Jamie-Lee hitting all the notes which are high and low. There is a personal message there, and maybe it is beyond what we are watching, it is haunting and sad. I really like it.

NORWAY: Monster like me - Morland and Debrah Scarlat
Rating: # 5th Pre-contest rating: 2nd Post-contest rating: 9th
I am a fan of Norwegian entries so it is not surprise that Norway is sitting in my top 5. This year, they had an exquisite entry that was beguiling, modern, moody, delicious and intense. Morland and Debrah are interesting and in character while retaining the mystery of what did they do that was so terrible? They chose to use a simple stage of darkness and light and it worked well.
I have a very small problem with it though and it is in their costuming. It was very casual, and I think I say this because the preview clip is so formal. I think they wanted to portray Debrah as pure in the scenario and Morland as the villain. All in all it is such a minor thing. I still love this song, and now I want them to record an album.
