every time i see you reblog something of mine (especially a fanmix) i literally DIE, I LOVE IT, THANK YOU you were the first person to care about eskal alongside myself. im crying

listen, I started running an Opal/Kuvira sideblog because I love Opal and I want to draw her kissing girls and Kuvira is tall.but, the more I see your eskal stuff the more into it I get because 1) Korrasami 2.0 (forget the subpar guy and get with his ex-girlfriend) 2) the aesthetic of the water tribe princess and the daughter of zaofu’s matriarch 3) I actually think they’d be good for each other.

Eska behaved abhorrently towards Bolin in Book 2 but if she tried to do anything like that with Opal Opal would call her out immediately (just like she did to Bolin when they first met in Book 3 and he was acting like a tool). Eska would be forced to 100% respect Opal, but she also wouldn’t let Opal push her around either.

Opal has a flaw in which she’s a very headstrong, righteous character that will literally not deal with you if you’re not doing what she thinks is right. Bolin’s problem in his relationships with Opal, and Eska, is that he doesn’t have enough confidence in himself to make the right decision or say his piece. 

Book 4′s narrative essentially punished him for choosing to side with Kuvira against his brother and girlfriend, so the Bopal I forsee will likely just end up with Bolin always deferring to his girlfriend. Hopefully Bolin’s insecurity will be addressed and overcome in the comics. It won’t make me ship Bopal but I’ll at least think that the ship would be sustainable and mutually-beneficial if it happened.

Opal, however, has bias and flaws just like every human being (e.g. telling Korra to ‘end’ Kuvira and not even considering that Korra might not want to kill Kuvira and after three years of healing might not even be up to fighting her) and with a partner like Bolin she won’t have anyone to really make her pause and think about how her righteousness might be harmful. Eska, however, would have no problem in telling Opal her opinions even if Opal would get mad at her. Eska stood against her own father when she saw that he was becoming out of control, and is always upfront with what she’s thinking and feeling.

so I guess what I’m saying is is that if they were a given a premise like every hetero ship on the show (’I just met you and now I’m blushing let’s date’), they’d force each other to grow and become better people. They’d balance each other out in an interesting way.
