SB233 passed! A few more formalities and in January it becomes the law! We changed the law in the state of California! This is a huge victory for the rights of marginalized communities and should be celebrated. Thank you to those in the establishment who advocated for us (among others Scott Weiner), each one of you who used your voice and talents, everyone who gave us support and press and all the tireless efforts of the activists who connected with the establishment-especially #ESLERP #usprostitutescollective @swop_sacramento and @swopbehindbars. There’s blood on your hands, Kamala Harris. There is blood on your hands, each one of you who signed the SESTA/FOSTA bill without checking in or listening to any of us effected by the legislation. We call on you for accountability. Hear our voices and the voices of our dead sisters as we speak the names and stories of those we have lost as a result of SESTA/FOSTA. These are only the people we know of, as you have erased our trail and our history with your misinformed bill. Cheryl Murray was stabbed and run over by a car in what we can only call a hate crime, with severe trauma to her body. Texas 2018. She was 52. Lydia Trillo was murdered in Connecticut in 2018. She was 44 and is mourned by her children and family.  Celine Walker was murdered in Florida in 2018. She was 36. Our trans sister is mourned by her loved ones. Bobby Simpson’s dead body was found burning in a fire in Ohio, in 2018. She was only 23 and is mourned by her parents. Chrystel Yager was murdered in New York. She was 38. After Chrystel was found, the police publicly stated there is no reason to believe the general public is in danger. We are the general public! And. We vote. And. Our loved ones vote. Criminalization of sex work and SESTA/FOSTA pushes us outside of society and makes us unsafe. SESTA FOSTA further marginalizes already vulnerable populations and consigns us to death. We do not accept this social cleansing. This is a women’s issue. This is a trans issue. This is a POC issue. This is a human rights issue!
