Sympathetic Ectoplasm Collection
The following is a method that can be used to collect ectoplasm from a graveyard that you have access to. It requires a canning jar with seal and lid, a handful of soil from the graveyard in question and a small piece of animal bone. The graveyard soil should be collected with the proper respect and should also be payed for. Since I live in Canada and work with Irish deities most often, I pay with a Canadian dime. Displaying the image of the Bluenose it creates a connection with the Irish psychopomp deity Manannan mac Lir who uses his ship to ferry souls to the Blessed Isles.
Now place both the graveyard soil and the piece of animal bone in the jar. Make sure that the piece of bone is buried in the earth. Next seal the canning jar tight and place it it in a dark location without exposure to daylight. Then wait until after the next full moon to open the jar. The light of the full moon has a pulling effect on ectoplasm and draws it from the bodies in burial places. Normally it would dissipate into the atmosphere or be absorbed by the spirits which inhabit such locations. The jar creates a sympathetic link to the burial location, essentially creating a small graveyard within the container. The same process happens within the jar but here the ectoplasm is trapped and can neither dissipate or be utilized by local spirits.
The trapped ectoplasm can be used in a number of ways. If you are a medium or spirit-worker capable of bringing forth the spirits of the dead, it can be used to strengthen or refresh them after they help you. If you are a medium who is capable of manifesting spirits using your own ectoplasm, it can be used to replace any which has been lost for various reasons. Advanced necromancers will find with enough training that they can use it to help treat dehydration and fevers or create servitors from it. Experts in the field of necromancy will find that it is possible to infuse it into objects they possess enabling them to bring a spirit copy into underworlds or other spiritual realms. There are of course a myriad of other uses but these would require a separate post.
