2016: Year of language learning
First step into starting my own Polyglot website and Esperanto blog for my upcoming card game is complete, finally bought my domain names. Yay for no longer procrastinating. The next month or so I’ll be working on creating content to make both sites go live. Stay tune folks, and spread the word.
Hieraŭ, mi kaj mia koramikino revenis hejmen. Hodiaŭ, ni faris suŝion. :P
Bonvolu paroli kun mi en Esperanto. Mi penas lerni Esperanton, sed mi konas neniun, kun kiu mi povas paroli. Mia Skype-nomo estas nelsonman90.
What is Esperanto?
Esperanto is a conlang (constructed language) invented by L. L. Zamenhof, a Polish physicist and linguist. In his home town of Bialystok, he saw the four distinct groups (Germans, Russians, Poles, and Jews) and thought that the main barrier between them was their language. Because of this, he decided to invent Esperanto (though it wasn't called that at the time). Esperanto was originally meant to be the "Lingvo Internacia" (international language), and to be everyone's second language so that nobody would experience language barriers anymore. In 1887, Dr. Zamenhof published his first Esperanto book, "Unua Libro" ("first book") under the name of "Dr Esperanto" ("Dr One who hopes"). People started reading it, and called the language "Dr. Esperantos language" which was shortened to just "Esperanto". The language initially became popular in his hometown, then spread over eastern Europe, to Western Europe, and since then it's spoken in over 100 countries, with notable populations in Hungary, Japan, and China (The latter which has a website where they publish the news in Esperanto). The first World Esperanto Congress took place in France in 1905, and has every year except for the World Wars. NON HISTORY BIT OVER HERE The grammar of Esperanto was made to be as simple as possible. As an example, all nouns end in -o, all adjectives end in -a, and all adverbs end in -e. Verbs are completely regular, with four tenses, present, past, future, and conditional, ending in -as, -is, -os, -us, respectively. Esperanto also includes the accusative, which marks the direct object of a sentence, by adding an N to the end of an adjective or noun. If I were to say "the big dog quickly eats the red meat" it would be "la granda hundo rapide mangxas la rugxan viandon". The alphabet is mostly the same as english, but a couple of letters are pronounced differently and there are a couple of diacritics. "C" is pronounced "ts", "J" is pronounced "J", like in Germanic and Slavic languages. There are 6 different letters with diacritics above, mostly circumflexes. If someone is writing in Esperanto, but doesn't have access to an esperanto keyboard, they simply put an "X" after the letter that requires the diacritic. Some people also use an "h", but the "X method" is more widespread. "Cx" is pronounced like the english "ch" in "cheese", "gx" is pronounced like the english "j" as in "joy", "hx" doesn't have an english equivalent, but it's pronounced like the old scottish "loch". "Jx" is pronounced "zh" as in "pleasure" or the french "j". "Sx" is pronounced "sh" as in "shoot". "Ux" doesn't have a sound on its own, but it modifies the vowel before it. For example, "oux" would be pronounced like the english "oh". I'll stop here, but if Esperanto interests you, i would recommend http://lernu.net/ And http://duolingo.com/
Esperanto ja vivas! #EsperantoLives Today is Zamenhof Day, the biggest holiday in Esperantujo. It's a day of celebration of Esperanto culture and literature on the birthday of the language's creator, Ludwig Zamenhof. What is Esperanto? It's a language planned and created in 1887 with the goal of international communication and togetherness. These days, it's mostly a tool for people around the world of diverse cultural backgrounds to use to communicate and share with each other. Esperanto also just so happens to be the easiest language to learn in the world. It has regular grammar, spelling, and phonology, which allows for quick comprehension and usability. I myself have studied the language for just over a year and am a mid-level speaker/user. Hopefully this will have piqued at least one person's curiosity enough to go find out more about this fun language. ;P #Esperanto #frazoj #desegno #doodle #random #EsperantoVivas
