New polyglot challenge come January!!

This summer if you have the time off maybe try picking up a completely new language! The challenge lasts for however long your summer break lasts and you;

1) pick a completely new language you’ve never studied before

2) make a realistic goal for what you want to achieve out of this time (e.g. reading a beginning book in your target language, maybe having a short conversation with a native/advanced speaker, finishing a Duolingo tree etc)

3) commit to practicing it for a allotted time everyday (it could be 20 minutes to 2hrs everyday what matters is that you stick w/ it!)

4) immerse yourself in that language; listen to music and podcasts, watch movies and tv in your target language, change your tech to the target language-really surround yourself w/ the language

If you decide to take on this challenge make an intro post describing;

 who you are

 your target language

why you are choosing that language

what your goal is

how long you have for break/summer

tag it with #summer language challenge

Then every week

post abt something related to your target language (e.g. good movie you watched, cool words, accomplishments you made, vocab you learned etc)

post something in your target language (it can be anything)

progress on your goal(s)

tag it with #summer language challenge

At the end of your break make a post abt how you did. Hopefully you’ll have exceeded your expectations and gotten a solid foundation in your target language while having a series of posts that document your journey!

As a side note, tomorrow I’ll be starting Western Abenaki! I’ll try to record my language month, I think it’s going to be a really cool experience.

Hello, there!

I hope you are doing just great. As you already know, the purpose of this blog is to get to know other people so you can practice with them and improve your language skills. This month, I would like to help you guys do just that, but in a different way: with a language challenge!

This challenge is going to focus on writing, speaking, and listening. You will have a prompt for each day and when you post it, you’re going to tag your post with your target language(s) so other people doing the challenge can help you to correct your mistakes or improve your writing or pronunciation.

The challenge starts on December 5th and finishes on December 30th.

So I decided to make the august polyglot challenge by @polysprachig in september with french words, and maybe in october for farsi words, but we’ll see :) As I want to become a director one day, I’ve made a list of vocabulary relating to film making :)

August Polyglot Challenge! Week One

Hey guys! I decided to try to actually complete the polyglot challenge (for once) for this month, and the language I chose was French.  I chose all these words completely at random.  If I have any mistakes please let me know! And I encourage all of you to try the challenge as well! Tag me in your posts with #mauristudies so I can check out your own challenge posts!

~égratigner- to scratch, graze 

ex. il s’est égratigné le genou.

~égosiller- to shout, sing at the top of your voice.  

ex. elle a égosillé quand elle a entendu son chanson préférer.  

~escompter- to expect (to do), to discount 

ex.  il l’a escompté le faire.  

~faiblir- to get weaker, fail; to dim, diminish

ex.  le garçon faiblis la lumière.  

~faisceau- beam (of light) 

ex. un faisceau est venu à travers la fenêtre.  

~hiérarchiser- to prioritize

ex.  elle hiérarchise son chien.  

~maniement (d’un difficile)- handling 

ex.  elle avait un maniement sur la situation.  

~mijoter- to cook lovingly, cook up, simmer

ex. Permettez-la mijoter.  

~noirâtre- blackish

ex. j’ai vu un chat qui était noirâtre.

~révéler- to reveal (se révéler- to be revealed)

~roupiller- to sleep

ex. elle a roupillé sur la canapé.

~ruche- beehive

ex. les abeilles ont protégé sa ruche. 

~ruelle- alleyway

ex. j’ai traversé la ruelle. 

~sointiller- to sparkle, twinkle
