Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music is the first comprehensive high school of music in the Bronx, New York, United States. The current principal is Jerrod Mabry, who became principal in March 2013 after having taught English and acted as Assistant Principal since the school opened in 2003.

Congrats to the 15 high school ensembles selected to compete in the 19th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival at Frederick P. Rose Hall on May 8 – 10, 2014. The following finalists are among nearly 100 high school jazz bands across North America that entered the competition. Each school submitted recordings of three tunes performed from charts from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington library.

I'm getting really into the Essentially Ellington music I have made my fingers bleed in Jazz 1 twice this week

had a really good rhythm section rehearsal today, we're cracking down on Chinoiserie and really trying for this Essentially Ellington competition!

So we find out if our band gets to go to New York tomorrow. Slightly terrified. I keep telling myself to prepare to get disappointed, but... I spent so much time preparing for this. We all did. I just really hope we get lucky.

Also, the first indoor track meet in which I get to participate is tomorrow. I'm running opener in the 4x400 and in 800, which is pretty scary too. I hope my legs and feet and everything feels good for long enough that I don't screw everything up for my team.
