1.7.18 // 4:00pm // peter pauper essentials vs leuchtturm 1917
for my 2018 bujo, i bought a new journal and decided to go with the peter pauper essentials notebook instead of repurchasing the LT1917. here are my personal reasons for the switch along with a general comparison of the 2 notebooks. xoxo, m
GENERAL COMPARISON:
essentials journal:
- $12.99 ($10 on amazon)
- only comes in black
- one satin bookmark
- no numbering/index/contact info space
- whiter pages (an off-white color) - the pages on top in the second picture
- larger, lighter dots (light grey)
- 26x39 “boxes” per page
- thin, hard cover
- thicker paper (100gsm)
- less ghosting
- 192 pages
leuchtturm 1917:
- ~$20 (depending on the color)
- comes in a multitude of colors (including the gorgeous metallics)
- 2 cloth (?) bookmarks
- yes numbering etc
- yellower pages (more cream/yellow) - pages on bottom
- smaller, darker dots (med-dark grey)
- 26x38 “boxes” per page
- slightly thicker, “squishier” cover (still hard)
- thinner paper (70gsm)
- more ghosting
- 249 pages
similarities:
- hard cover
- A5 size (the covers are actually almost exactly the same size)
- back pocket (LT 1917′s is slightly nicer)
- pages lay flat (same binding)
- rounded corners
WHAT I THINK:
the biggest reason i made the switch was that the cream/yellow pages were driving me *crazy*. i find i really don’t like the way they photograph (which is kinda important since i’m a studyblr). the few other journals i could find with white paper were out of my price range (baron+fig, nuuna) or didn’t have the features i wanted. the combination of white pages, lower price (i got mine on sale for $10) and thicker pages won me over. i’m really liking this journal so far! the three big downsides i can see are the lack of color choices (i like black anyway), lack of index/numbering (which i never really used) and the smaller number of pages (i didn’t even finish my LT1917 after 18 months). if these things don’t matter to you/you’re willing to make the sacrifice, i definitely recommend!
*this post is not in any way sponsored/affiliated, i just enjoy this journal :)
*also be on the lookout for more essentials posts! i think i’m going to do a pen test next
