10 Years with the ESV Study Bible
Crossway just released an interview: Justin Taylor on the 10-Year Anniversary of the ESV Study Bible, and it made me think about how the ESV Study Bible has been my BIble for most of my young adult life in three main areas.
1. Our Music Ministry
I started serving in Youth Ministry sometime around 2006. I attended our college fellowship for my first two years and was asked to help out specifically with youth music. As Hanley alluded to in our most recent episode of Walnut Commentary, I did not yet have a full worship theology. The ESV Study Bible was there to guide me as I served in music ministry.
2. My Nursing Career
I graduated with my Associate’s Degree from nursing school in 2008. I immediately got a job as a night-shift RN, but I also headed back to school for my Bachelor’s Degree. This was a non-stop grind of going to the hospital and studying at school. I needed to know what God said about money, work, higher education, and serving more at church. The ESV Study Bible helped me through it all.
3. Significant Life Changes
I have been through many significant life events in the past 10 years. Major changes in my career, education, and relationships have changed me. The ESV Study Bible has held my hand through the celebrations and sufferings.
What More Can He Say?
I anticipate more life to happen in the next ten years. It will undoubtedly be filled with highs and lows. The ESV Study Bible is more than just a book to me. It is God’s Word. And it’s not about the footnotes, maps, timelines, and articles (though they are helpful!) - it’s about cherishing God’s Word. It’s about loving the Lord who wrote the book. Letting the Spirit shine on the text. And seeing the Word of God incarnate, our Savior.
