I'm on a writing spree, guys! Like, seriously! The final chapter of Never Going To Let You Go is going to be a BIG one because it took me a total of 2094 words to make up the first scene.
The reason why it's going to be big? Because it's not just the final chapter, but because it has everything to do with how Optimus started off as alone and having thought that he would never see his sparkmate again to now having a family and an adopted son (Rodimus) to call his own. He was depressed and alone, despite Rodimus already having been accepted into the family before Elita returned. But with Elita's return and her accepting Rodimus as calling her his "mother", she knew what would be best to make Optimus whole again.
The void that Optimus had in his spark becomes mended and whole once again. He has a reason to keep on living, something extremely precious to protect and cherish.
What is the importance of this chapter?
"A human concept, one I have learned since coming to Earth: family."

Sneak Peek in my notes for "Inherit" chapter 11 - Not A Day Gone By
Rodimus growls and demands that they skip the pleasantries and he demands to know what they planned to do with him, even though he mentally knew what the Decepticon leader was planning. Megatron laughs in amusement and motions to Starscream and Cyclonus to draw closer, they obey without hesitation. Megatron then proceeds to ask if Rodimus had been prepared for just about every kind of “questioning” the Decepticons used. Rodimus doesn’t answer, instead, choosing to remain silent so as to not give away what Prowl had taught him.
Seeing that he wasn’t going to get an answer, Megatron ordered Cyclonus to drop the forcefield. Rodimus bristles in preparation for escape, but both Starscream and Cyclonus stand on either side of the cell, preventing him from making an escape attempt.
Megatron approaches Rodimus slowly and aggressively lunges an arm forward, grabbing Rodimus by the throat and lifting him high off the ground. Rodimus doesn’t struggle, knowing that it was fruitless to escape the clutches of his enemy, but he still makes a grasp for the clawed hand at least lessen the grip and give him more oxygen. He can’t afford to show his emotions for he knew how much Megatron valued his prisoners to break.
Megatron brings him close to his face and growls deeply, telling Rodimus that he will pay dearly for what he did to Harbinger and that he was going to make the young mech suffer so much that even his sparklings will suffer when they’re born.
Rodimus doesn’t respond, instead, he quietly gasps as the choking hold on his neck tightens.
